Okay, I have an Nvidia GeForce FX5200. Needless to say, it sucks big time. 800x600 on Jedi Academy with everything else turned up. It is choppy, the graphics are pixely, and it drives me nuts. The problem is, my dad sees no reason to upgrade. The monitor works, he can check his email and pay bills, so it is all fine with him. He is like, "Well, if you want a new video card, you can buy one yourself." I am 15, I have 1 lawn job. Needless to say, I am broke. I want either a 9600XT or a 9800 Pro, I don't know anything about NVidia cards that compare well at the same prices but I am open to them too. How can I get one of these cards?

Pick up a 2nd job and save up...

Hard decisions: Intel or AMD, Windows or Linux, Netscape or IE, Baldur's Gate II or Counter-Strike, computer or women.

Get your dad to go half, and have it be a Christmas present... and sell the 5200 to some friend with a Ti4200 who NEEDS a DX9 card. Get a buyer for the 5200 before you make the proposal.

Tell him you will not play any games for a month if he agrees.

Get up at 4:00 a.m. tomorrow morning while he is still sleeping and wash his car.

I'm 15, I had to buy every part of my computer with my shitty job. Took all summer and a couple of months after that. It's about reached the $1000 mark :|, big accomplishment for me. It's not quite as fast I wanted, but it's decent. Get the 9800Pro.

overclock? I know it won't sort out your problems entirely, but maybe a few extra FPS will sort out your problem...

On second thoughts,....get working!
