My motherboard supports 4x AGP video cards, and right now I have a really lame crappy peice of junk graphics card installed. I would like to upgrade to something such as a GeForce FX 5900 or so, but they require 8x AGP. I've read somewhere before that I can still use that card, and that the '4x or 8x' AGP doesn't really matter. Before I go out and spend money on the card, I was wondering if it was possible to do this.
Yah d00d, they're not liars, you can run an 8x card on a 4x slot and it usually doesn't make a noticeable difference.
Most of last years 8x cards even ran on 2x slots, except the 9600 series and the 9800XT, which still ran on 4x slots just fine.

you might wanna look into which card offers the best bang for the buck before spending your money on that model though. I think you'd be much happier with a radeon 9800 pro
