hey there,

This is my first post in these forums so I am hoping people here are more friendly than the couple places I *tried* to get some answers. Ok here it goes...

I just bougth a used Gigabyte Radeon 9600 Pro 128 MB from my fiend and everything works fine when I install the card and drivers. However when I move the windows or play games (CS mostly) I realize that the movements are choppy and not as smooth as my old card. It is nothing serious or obvious, its just that one of those things you know is not rigth :). My old card was a MX-440 64 MB which is a really out dated card. Anyways, I installed the newest drivers and everything but that didn't take care of the problem. My current system is:

AMD Athlon XP 1500+
512 MB DDR PC-2700 Ram
and the Gigabyte card.

I appreciate every advice that you can provide.

Thanks.

Did you use a driver removal program since removing your GF4MX?

nV drivers are notoriously sticky, and cause major havoc with other cards (and even other nV cards) if they aren't thoroughly removed first. Using programs like <A HREF="http://download.guru3d.com/detonator-rip/" target="_new">Detonator RIP</A>, <A HREF="http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/" target="_new">Detonator Destroyer</A> or <A HREF="http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/" target="_new">Driver Cleaner</A> are necessary before installing new cards and software.

Try that and then see what happens, if it's still happening, then we can troubleshoot from there.

ok I went and got Driver Cleaner. Cleaned all nVidia foles and ATI files, then re-installed the drivers for 9600 Pro. I still have the same issue. it looks like a really simple glitch when i play Counter Strike like almost un-noticable if you don't pay attention. Also when I minimize and maximize windows, the blue window bar at the top gets messed up. Same for when I move windows around like the window frame doesn't move as a whole but you can see a little glitch at the sides.

I updated from an MX440 to a BBA 9600xt last x-mas and thought I was getting decent performance. I then decided to do a clean install of my OS and am glad I did. I had used a driver cleaner as well. I never experienced any choppiness though, just faster after the clean install.
