I cannot find information in the MS KB or in Windows XP Help and Support on
how to change the default file associations. Could someone point me in the
right direction?

Thanks!

Okay, I found out how to change file associations. However, now I need to
figure out how to change the default Icon associated with a file. For some
reason my .bmp files all have a foreign Icon associated with them. Help! :)

In windows explorer:
Tools -> Folder options -> File types -> Advanced.
You should see a "Change icon" button there.

Michal,

I've done that and the Icon does not change. Do I need to do some Registry
work?
