ATI on top for the time being

Well some news from the Front page here, but interesting enough.

http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20041026_164352.html

Really it's about the fates of a previous generation, and still neither company being able to shift significant amount of product out the door to change the last generations impact. But that's a pretty big shift, 50/45 to 37/59 is a pretty serious shift in percentage of the market.

I expect the market to shift back towards the middle or even in favour of nV, but really alot of that will depend on getting these new solutions to the market to begin with.

Still just shocking numbers considering how slowly ATI was gaining during the actual hey-day of the R3xx and FX series.

None the less ATI better save some of their previous profits and put it into R&D to be sure to remain competitive in the long run, because this is really all about last generations performance, not any type of validation for this generation of cards.

I was really amazed at that though. I don't think ATi's ever been giving SUCH a break. Heck, it's almost like if AMD suddenly had 40% market share and Intel's dropped to 45%.

More info on the numbers at the InQ;

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=19309

BTW, ATI's headquarters aren't in Toronto as the InQ says, so the partying will be a little further north, unless they take the 404/DVP into the city.

LOL!

You made a BooBoo!

R500 is in the XPlotz2 it's the R520 or R5xx as I like to call it that you want, or NV50/NV5X. And if we're lucky we may read about them in the first quarter of '05, and see them (other that the first dozen to 'prove' it's not a paper launch) by the summer.

BTW, I wonder what they will be named; maybe XI900 (to follow the R9700, R(10)800, R(11)900 schema).

ATi will be X8009800XT-SE-XT-PE and nVidia will offer the GeForce 7800GT LE Ultra Extreme Edition.

I'm still hoping for the X999 or X969 which would be great.

CoolS, I and a few others are still hoping for a GF6969 UltraSuede.

Even an X911 would be interesting either promote the Emergency services side of things or the Porsche tie-in.

6969Ultra Extreme LE SHITZNIT Version is the official name

and for u fanATic who only reads the good things about ATi, nVidia is currently owning them in high-end and 6800GT is just kick arse

Like I said, the market should shift back again with this generation, but really nV has to make more cards, because the next generation is actually coming far faster than expected (R5xx in Spring!).

I suspect that by this time next year the numbers should be just about even. The X300 though does still rule the money making bottom end until the GF6200 makes more of an apperance. Now the investors' question is which one makes the companies the most money, the X300 or the GF6800GT?

NV is owning ATI top end. But probably because the 6800 and 6800GT are available. The XTpe has been so scarce and the XT is just entering the picture. If ATI had met demand for the XTpe's, I think the high end picture would be different. I know my 2 preorders fell through. Anyway, It would have been intersting to see what would have happened if the Ultra and PE were both available in large quantities rather than just 6800NU/GT and X800 Pro

So far if I had to buy a card it would be the 6800GT for $350. If I found the X800 Pro for $300, I'd switch to that. If the X800XTpe was $400, I'd buy that.

Money no object (say free gift), my order of choice would be: X800XTpe, 6800U, X800XT, 6800GT, X800 Pro. But spending real hard-earned money on it now, the 6800GT makes the most sense given current prices.

I was at Local Circuit City tonight. These are midrange and up card choices they have in stock:

6800nu ($280AR - After Rebate)
6600 (180)
FX5900 (250)
R9800p 128MB (250)
AIW 9800p (400)
9600XT (170AR)
AIW9600XT.(180AR)

I am yet to see a next gen ATI card at that store or on their website. Yet the 6800U is in stock at their website for $490.

i wouldent really say nv owns ati, nv has the ticket with the 6800gt over the 800pro but that would be it. the ultra doesent offer as much power as the ati x800xt PE, ok there is waiting time of 4 weeks in the uk, but atleast the cards turn up.

NV has the same problem with demand like ati does with the higher power cards because they just dident know demand would be so much for people having the bragging rights.

i upgraded cuz i really needed to upgrade halo was running [-peep-] and so was far cry, the fx 5600 was crap then i borrowed a 9600pro untill i had £200 for a 6800.

but prices inthe uk are piss high compared to the USA. a ultra cost`s cheapest £360 currency converter to usd $700. thats a bitch of a price.
