Sounds good to me. I still play need for speed Hot Pursuit 2. One of the best $9.99 buys I have purchased. No American Muscle in this demo huh, just a Nissan? Took about 8 tries to grab a decent dl speed.

Dang, it's slowing down went from 11 minutes to 26 minutes now. :frown:

I'm lucky I got a fast mirror:)

I've been playing this game in the "free to roam" mode, and the more I play it, the more I appreciate the subtle changes that black box have made, over the original. Motion blur is working properly now, and the rain that happens, at certain points in the map, looks really great.

I have heard peeps on other forums say that AA is borked, or that it should be set to application.....I've found neither of this to be true(unless my vision is off) I have my control panel AA set to 4x, and it makes a big difference visually. I'm thinking about trying 6x since my framerates are so unbelievably good. No one likes a car with jaggies:)

I'm going to go play some more.

Been playing for an hour now. Sure isn't too demanding is it. Makes the aging 9800 pro seem like a champion. I didn't play the original, but even though this is very arcady for me, still lots of fun.

I'll try AA tomorrow. man I stink at drifting! Highest score in 4 tries was still under 30K.

I'd sure like to get behind the wheel of the 2005 Mustang they show on the first install screen.

Did you figure out how to pull into the garage, at the beginning of the game, and change to different Z cars?

Do you mean in the free mode? Nope didn't see that. I need to explore that more. Only car choice i saw was in single race you can choose from 4... basically color changes.

Do you have a wheel? If so what kind?

I must say GW whilst this isnt exactly a constructive comment (and no offence intended) I must say that juiced both sucked and blowed. Ropey Graphics at best and my matchbox cars when i was 8 handled better. Having played NFSUG2 though, i must say 1st impressions are very good.

I like the Logitech rumblepad. I got 2 of them packaged with Madden football for $30. You can buy a cheap USB Logitech wheel new for $29 shipped on Yahoo. Wheels do make it more fun if you have a desk that it can clamp to.

Yeah good luck getting an original sidewinder to break. I had a newer USB one bite the dust when it was almost new.

and they cost prsctically nothing to boot. I have 2 different types and both cause problems in certain games when connected (even when not using it for that game) GTA: All versions as an example; the camera wont stop spinning. but you cant moan for about £5.

BTW GW, what res are you running Nfs in to get these super duper mc party pooper frame rates???

I never claimed to get any super framerates!

I have the control panel for my 9800 set to application preference on AA & AF

The other sliders are set to quality

I use the in-game settings to make adjustments, but everything is on max. I only play games in 1024x768.

I am staying above 35fps in this game, which is more than enough(30fps is fine for driving games)

***edit***
I just re-checked my in game settings, and I have AA set to the halfway mark. I was told that maxing out this slider will enable 6X AA, which is too much for my card/system.

I didn't mention framerates and especially no super duper pooper scooper framerates. Matter of fact I didn't even have fraps running when I played it that first night. After being humbled with games like farcry, I was just shocked that I could set the game to 1280x1024 and the slider to max and still have smooth gameplay. That's why i said "not too demanding" as something like farcy would be completely unplayable at 1280-max-detail. Edit: and basically I thought 1280 max on new games was a thing of the past for my system. MOHAA pacific assualt demo also chugs at high settings.

Anyway, Thanks alot guys, GW and you rained on my parade. I have reduced my settings after playing with fraps and doing one minute benches of gameplay. My ati drivers were set to blend (ap pref for AA/AF), so i was running the highest in game AA. Using fraps and benching one minute of gameplay showed a low of 23, average of 26 and a high of only 31. I now reduced the AA/AF to half and gained a few fps. Although now playing with fraps I am not happy at those settings even as fps is in the 26-33 range sitting often at 29-30.

Well day 2 of the demo with fraps running and ugh I want better fps. It's a very playable game even with dips under 30fps. But now I notice the slowdown playing and stare at the number in the upper left corner.

At 1024x768 max detail with AA on all the way I stay above 30fps, but I really want 1280x1024 and half AA and stay above 30. Not gonna happen I see except on the drifting map. Exploring and the 4 car race are a couple fps lower than drifting.

I haven't seen any issues with the AA using Cat 4.10 drivers. AA makes a huge difference visually(you didn't just imagine that). I am set to Ap pref ATI blend settings and if during a race I slide the AA/AF slider off/half/high, you can see a huge difference as it changes the window glass of your car right before your eyes without even resuming the game. Jaggy, smooth, very smooth. AA is definately woking.

I need to play around some more on it. Just how much of a OC will I need to stay above 30 and still use max settings and mid AA at 1280x1024? is there something I can slide off max and not notice it, yet gain a few fps? I'll need to figure those questions out and try to stay above your 35 fps. JK, staying above 30 on fraps and not noticing any slowdown at all and I'll be happy. I only OC when I need to and keep a fairly conservative speed for daily use, either stock speed or up to half the cards potential when needed.

Can't believe though how smooth it seemed the first day while being under 30 fps most the time. Also can't believe I didn't noctice the slowdows because now I do. I have benched alot of racers like NFSHP2, GTR2002, Insane, and found lows above 25fps are usually acceptable for controlling the car just fine, but still noticable for sure. I don't like to notice the slowdown at all though in any game and usually sacrifice details a little to have the smoothest gameply.

today was also day 2 of play and ran everything on high detail with full AA at ~32 FPS on my 6800nu. also found out that all the shops have a large, bright light in front of the entrance to them. every1 but me has prolly found this out, but u no im a little slow sometimes :)

I'll try that and see if it helps me stay at 1280.

I messed around with OC'in my cpu and 9800p as far as I like to go on a daily basis and still can't get 1280x1024 max with half AA up to what I'd like. I set it to 1024 with full AA and that is definately better.

One problem... i had no desire to buy this game, yet I'm finding it addicting. My son loves it too, and he asked why some roads are locked. I explained the whole free demo thing and he said I want to buy it. LOL, no concept of money yet I guess. Maybe I'll explain it in terms of Thomas the choo choo comparisons. It's like 3 trains. Anyway, the problem is I want HL2 on DVD and that will blow the current games budget making this one hard to buy until bargain bin time.
