This has to do with my games, therefore graphics card is included, but I think it might be a processor problem but I only really post here so ill see what you guys think.

Games have been crashing now and then, and once in a great while the computer will just restart, after talking to a few people im pretty sure my power supply is adequate, Ive reformated and installed fresh drivers so that dosnt appear to be the issue. Im starting to think its the cheap stock thermal paste that we didnt have enough of because I had to take the cpu out once and reapply it a second time so it didnt get that great of a coat. My question is Would this make the game crash with a window that says application has to close and make the computer restart?? Im pretty sure this is the culprit but want to get second opinions also. (Arctic Silver on the way )

You could have a bad stick of ram. Try running memory test and tell us the results.

I think that its a termal or power suplly problem. When I have termal problems in the cpu or Gf card the 3d aplication crashes and it goes to the desktop or if its a very demanding game it restarts because of the high production of heat. If you say the psu is fine so just try renewing the termal paste. Its a cheap and easy option.

I dont belive its thermal, I have 7 Case fans, and I have a pci exhaust fan 2 spaces down from the agp slot, the videocards fan is pretty much blowing the hot air down and into the exhaust fan and its going straight out, 2 fans are blowing cold air directly into the area on the card, there being no stale, awsome air circulation and not seeing ridiculously high temperatures ever lead me to belive that heat is a none issue right now.

I suspect everything though so im not ruling it out, I just need to logicaly eliminate possibilitys. Im going to start with the mem test.

Okay I just ran memtest and heres the results I got:

Test 5 - 52 errors
Test 6 - 1 error

I preformed 4-6 passes and got the same number every pass, no discrepancies. Are some errors normal or does any evidence of errors mean the rams toast. Even if some are normal 50 seems to be extensive... I half hope this is the case, hence resulting in the end of a long "mystery problem" Ive had thats been plaguing me.

Yeah, looks like bad RAM. Did you run the test with just one stick at a time? That way you can narrow down which stick is bad.

Also, can you monitor your temperatures at all? Does the motherbaord come with a monitoring program? If not, try downloading Motherboard Monitor. Its available for free on the net. It should let you check your temps.

Also, you say your PSU is adequate, but you don't list the specs for it.

No I tested it with everything in just to see if something was wrong in the first place, now that there is
isolating the malfunctioned stick and rtv'n it are the next logical steps.

How many errors dictate how bad the memory is ?? Does it not make a diffrence between 1 - 20 errors, is 1 error enough to ruin the ram, as errors increase is it a cumulative effect??

Im not listing it because I dont belive its a issue, Enermax EG465P-VE.

I have temp monitoring for cpu in bios. Lcd / Fan control center on my case (thermal probe on processor)and video card temp monitering built into the card.

Just thought I would mention it.

Glad you found the problem

Well hopefully I found the problem, if I get new ram and im still having this problem im gonna be pretty pissed off. Im just wondering if having bad ram would account for games crashing and just shutting down and shelling me to windows and for my comp to just restart once in a great while, that screams of overheated videocard and inadequate psu. *Starts doubting everything*

Bad RAM can cause all kinds of problems. From crashing somputers to being unable to install an operating system.

If you get ANY errors with MemTest86, you need to replace the RAM. It would only get worse.

Good news, I removed the faulty stick of ram and everything is running great, glad to know its not my processor or video card. Just waiting to hear back from Mushkin to see what they wanna do.
