I would get the 128. If I were purchasing the 6800GT I would choose the 256MB version.

AGP 2x?

Man, I'm not even sure that'd work... besides, if your mobo is 2x, your CPU is probably not fast enough to bother with a 6800.

I'd hate to say it again, but this is another case where the 9700 PRO or 9800 PRO is your most worthy upgrade as far as a videocard goes.

Although chances are, your motherboard and CPU need the most attention at this point...

here is the deal
I have a p4 2.8 with a 1.5 gigs of rdram (damn you dell)
when in the bos i can only set the agp x2 (it may need a bios update)
I had a geforce 9550 with 256 megs. One of the components on the board fell off so I had to RMA it.

I have a second machine with a geforce 3mx that could use an upgrade. So if I buy the gt it will go in the main and the 9550 will go in the second box.

ATI isnt an option right now, because I can swap these card out without changing drivers.

I will be buying ati when when i build a new rig in 6 months when i switch to athalon64 and the rx480 with pci-e and the x800xt.

Yeah man, I'd work on the rest of your computer. And then a 6u00GT with 256MB.

Geforce 9550?

Do you mean Geforce 5950 maybe?

If that's the case, don't bother upgrading at all. If you're buying a new box and a spiffy X800 later on, your 5950 is a decent card that should last you a while, especially if it's going to be downgraded to your second box.

Don't be so sure about that. nV to nV can be equally as tricky as nV to some other Mfr. Don't expect no problems going from an FX to a new GF6xxx.

It is always best regardless of mfr to clean out old drivers before putting in a new card, whether it's ATI to ATI, or nV to nV, or nV to SIS, or Matrox to ATI. It takes like 5 minutes and avoids a ton of possible conflicting crap.

There is nothing wrong with the new Gforce cards, so I'm not saying consider ATI, I'm simply saying don't just plop any new card in, clean out the old driers first regardless of what you choose. Well, except maybe XGI, perhaps someone else's drivers will actually make their cards work BETTER!
