ATI 9800PRO Questions.

Ok, I just got one from ebay. I did have an Nvidia 5600 card, and was quite happy with it until overclocking did not help with my low FPS.

What do I need to overclock this card? Are there any good BETA drivers better than the one's on ATI's site. Whats this Control Center crap as well?

Thanks a bundle...

Are there any soft mods I can do to this card (inc BIOS flashes) - It's an R350 core btw.

Thanks

You could do an XT bois flash but it not worth it IMO just over clock. As far as the Control panel [-peep-] arund with it i dont know its not to complicated the ATI AI is the optamaztion thing i think i have had some problems with it and CS:S when over clocked not sure why probibly some conflict with ati tool.

If you do the 9800 Pro -> 9800XT BIOS flash and you have an R350 as opposed to an R360, you will get "snow" in some of the textures. It shows up in 3DMark 03. I wouldn't do the XT flash, personally.

I tried the XT flash with poor results, plus depending on your ram, you may not be able to clock it high enough stably.

And personally I HATE the catalyst control center. I have yet to get it up and running properly, it always causes problems (even after a full format)

P4 3.0C HT, Intel D865GBF, 1GB Crucial PC3200 DDR, 2x WD 36GB Raptor 10kRPM, BBA Radeon 9800PRO, SB Audigy, Hauppage WinTV

overclocking with ATI tool I can 340 Core / Stock mem :frown:

I'm incredibly unlucky. Anything over stock on RAM gits snow.

Screw that Control Center and get Rage3d, some also use ATI tool.

Not certail on the HSF soulution you have but I would STRONGLY recomend getting the VGA Silencer to replace the HSF on that card.

also done a GHETTO mod, and slapped on an 80mm fan pointing towards to mobo with half of it above the card, and half below.

It seems to be running cooler. But My pc is currently having Windows reinstalled so I cant see if it helps the o/c. (Typing on my dad's PC btw)

Yeah the thing you gotta do when you have REALLY high expectations on products, maybe more than the manufacture would like ;-)
