ATI 9800 HOT!

It burns!

I just put a VGA Silencer on it, and the air it pumps out of the back is very warm. There is also a heat sink on the underside (opposiste the Core) which is used to cool the core which gets too hot to touch!

I did not know they ran this hot...Is mine broke?!

Do you have a VGA Silencer? or an ATi Silencer?

If it's an ATi Silencer...is it a Silencer 1, 2, or 3?

Well make sure the fan is set to high for starters. Anywho I installed the VGA silencer and I also noticed that the alloy was hot all over but my AGP card was able to oc higher afterwards.

I have the same as you , and yea the heatsink is hot to the touch... those R350 cores get hot. air out of the back is very very warm. its still better than the stock HSF (my vga "silencer" is louder than stock oh high) , I run mine on low even when its clocked at XT speeds. i imagine it probably hits 85C+ under load, but it takes alot more to actually fry the chip and the heatsink is huge enough to dissipate the heat

If only cpu's were as resistant as the gpu are...

Signature (up to 200 characters). You may use Markup in your signature

what are stock XT speeds? I know mine can do 440 Core, mem...doesn't seem to o/c - which is very strange!

You could always pee on it im sure that would cool it down.

done both...lol.

RAM sinks are on as stock. I've got a feeling that a clean install (which I've just finished) will sort out my problems. Previous GPU was an Nvidia.

Is 440 core any good btw?

XT = 412 core and 365 memory (i think for the memory)

i found MUCH more improvements from raising the core with my card.. in fact, i notice almost no difference in benchmarks by changing my memory clocks. ive underclocked it to 300mhz and up to 370mhz with barely any diff in 3dmark03 and Aquamark

440 is a nice oc, mine does 420

right, ATI tool has run for 500 seconds (8.333* minutes) @

440 core / 371 (DDR 742) mem.

I'm guessing I'm going to have to back down a bit 2 play Doom3 with out probs.
