I'm running a 9600XT on a 2400+ and I'm getting mostly framerates over 30fps w/o AA and AF on 1024x768.

When I run the CS:Source Stress test on 1024x768, no AA or AF, and full detail, it gives me an average of 55fps.

The hardware demands are not as high as some people think. It runs better than doom3 does on my system.

HL2 should run very smooth with a 9600pro. HL2 seems to be tailored for ATI products. Has anyone seen Humus on potential tweaks to be done to give it even more FPS?

Humus is at nvnews getting his ass kicked for defending ATi's HL2 benchies. He is holding his own though.

Just ran a bunch of benchmarks, and wasn't getting impressive results, a bit of lag on 1024x768 high/high/shadow/2Xaa/trillinear.

The I realized something, I hadn't put the FSB back from running tests at 100mhz (effective 12xx mhz processor instead of the 1667). D'oh!

Anywhoo, I'll run some benchies as part of the Catalyst update this weekend.

I'll see if I can grab a FRAP result or two before I go to bed.

OK running the XP2000+ at it's proper 133mhz FSB, with 512mb of DDR400 (single channel), and the R9600P running at stock (400/300), these are what I got;

That one room was just killer. When playing I found I noticed slowdowns @1024x768, but just dropping it slightly to the 960x720 gave me very little instance of lag, except of course that whole ton of barrels blowing up simultaneously.

Hope that helps.

Well I'm still trying to figure out what I can and can't run so it's fun for me to to some extent, except when you're trying to fight something and press F10 at the same time, 'help help I need a third hand' (to cup my balls of course).

I'm also interest in how the Laptop does, it sucked at D3, let's see if it's playable at low settings.

Anywhoo, as for the desktop, thought the light on - light off would be of interest, and so would the dynamic exploding precious antique cans.

The water didn't turn out like I had hoped, seemed to look better in action.

BTW, thanks for all your help with FRAPS.

Anywhoo, gotta go to bed, 7am start again tomorrow (ahhh 5 hours sleep refreshing like a whack in the head with a shovel!)

If u notice, your screenie 1, and as a matter of fact throughout HL2 - the way the bullets/sparks are shown is same as the 3dmark 05 1st test.

Thx for the work. You were running 2X AA for those tests? If so, is 1024 High no AA smooth? I hope to tweak the best playable settings on my system this weekend. And do some fraps benching runs as well as try Anands timedemos this weekend on a R9800 pro. I haven't been able to play it since staying up late on the first night. :frown:

If you check the settings screenie (why I provided it  ) you will see I set it to no AA for this run.

I found that with the card running at 500/350 I could run 2XAA, but even then there was the occasional chugging when ALOT of $h1t happened onscreen (common when things/bots/cops swarm you).

1024x768 is probably OK a stock speeds, but I wasn't sure because very fast 180/3600 degree turns chopped a bit. I think enabling V-sync may help that somewhat.

When everything is turned up (within reason, I don't need reflect everything water on the R9600P, though I did try it and it's a bit better) it make a big difference. You can dumb down to 800x600 with 2XAA, but really the memory needs a kick in the teeth to start with (that's the biggest drawback of the R9600/X600 series [and even the new mid-ranges] DAMN 128bit memory!) .

Oops, my bad. I had clicked every screenie link but missed the settings one.

Anyway, your advanced settings are exactly what the game detected and recommended I run, and at 1024x768. I only played for one night and left it at those settings for now. I haven't tried OC'in anything yet either.

I've got an R9500 Pro and it runs 40.xx frames avg in the CS stress test at 1280x10xx.

Edit: Heh. Might help if I listed system specs - P4 3.0 & 1GB Dual Channel DDR400.

Well, 2 hours gaming tonight! I was able to keep the advanced settings the same and play at 1280x1024 just fine. I am a happy camper.

Way cool screenies man, thanks. I believe if u turn the thing up to 500/350, it can run at 1074x768 no aa/af smooth above 30fps with $h1T flyin' around right?

I gave it a run at that level and I still had trouble. I'll try that segment again later today if I have time. I think the section that involves screenie 7 there would be hard to keep above 20fps since things are flying explodig every-frickin'-where! Even an R9800PRO would have trouble reaching 30 fps @ 1024x768 with that segment IMO. Seriously, you blow up one thing and all the others catch fire while flyuing around and blowing up. VERY Intense.

Just look at the Framerate of the same room and all the barrells on the wall before I shot them. Even with the flyer dead straight on moving around I got 50+fps, blow the barrels up, and suddenly 11fps.

I don't know about 'level' but it's just before going out to the outside where you first get shelled (just before the air boat in the canal).

I'll look for it, I don't remember seeing any real low fps drops, but I was playing at only 1024 for the first night.
