Thats called intraptment here in the US and a decent lawyer can push that out like nothing and it was the owner itself that in escence gave it away.

The best that they can do is deact those copies but they will be getting a shock if they can persuit legal action on those that do DL it.

Did anyone catch the option on multiplayer?

Just wondering if it was OK, fantastic or what????

Might be enough reason to buy it.

I aint signing nothing!!!
November 18, 2004 8:39:17 PM

no its not e(i)ntrapment.
By pirating u are violating copyright laws.
Stay away from the file - is the simple message.
Its just to catch people red handed.

From what Ive seem of this program, Its juat too damn good to rip off the company. Gotta give them props, in case in monetary form.

Well have to see. Doom 3 is a killer game and a TON of people ripped it off of bittorrent. Valve will probably see the same ammount. Whenever I finish MOHPA, Ill get that collectors edition of HL2, got the HL1 shirt long time ago and want the HL2 shirt.

If it anything like the original then Id say it will be a must have, just look at all the famous multiplayer mods that spawned from HL1.

im just going to wait till its 40 bucks and ill buy it. shouldnt be long. the day frys has it for 40 bucks and every one else is still 50, frys will make a [-peep-] load of money on items other than the game. thats what they did with far cry. of course they ran out in like the first hour and were giving out rain checks. thats ok though.

I bought it yesterday, and it's well worth it.

The problem i have with this, is its not pirating. Valve is basically giving the public HL2 for free and banning people for using it. A company can't pirate its own software. This is like the RIAA sharing a kazaa account with its full library of music then suing people for downloading the music for free.
November 19, 2004 9:34:23 PM

u telling me ?
I already have the game and have been playing since 12:05am, Nov 16th, 2004.

November 19, 2004 9:48:42 PM

maybe its not entrapment but it is not pirating either. Pirating is illegal, putting your own software on a filesharing network and allowing people to download it is not. Its called shareware.

I don't blame Valve for trying to circumvent pirating.

They just choose the dumbest ways of doing things in alot of matters.
November 19, 2004 10:06:03 PM

Does it say they are the ones pirating it? I didn't see that. As long as they aren't the ones sharing the file then they will be alright. However if they ARE sharing the file. That is probably another story.

Amen to that... games seem so cheap now. But try telling that to my ex-boss, who pirates all of his software and uses it for profit, even though four or five projects would've been enough to pay for his whole software library. Pissed the heck out of the employees too because everything was buggy outdated versions and lost us all kinds of man-hours.

So are they saying they're shutting down BitTorrent accounts? or Steam accounts? or what? because if they're shutting down all your Counterstrike and everything for a HL2 infraction, that's getting pretty hardcore.
November 20, 2004 5:28:35 AM

PC Games drop in price so fast lately. DOOM III can be found for 49.99$ CDN, roughly 40$ US.

I bought HL2, believe it or not, for 49.99$ CDN too. Yup, the Canadian dollar just screwed the American dollar big time. IIRC HL2 is 54.99$ US!

(hey Ape, guess where that nice price came from. GUESS! )

I'm not in any hurry. I didnt even like HL1(never finished it)

It just kind of jerks my chain when I see a bunch of people mob together, and frown on downloading something illegally, when we are all fuccking guilty of it at one time or another. I dont care it it was even one lonely mp3. Dont act like such a fuccking innocent here.

they will ban the user/ip or whatever on their netwrok. that means NO Valve games. Even worse - if they are successful - Vivendi will ban you. And thats not good.

Side effects, when Vivendi comes into play, it takes a harder turn, because u know vivendi is MPAA/RIAA. Expect more.

Gabe - We're keeping track of the accounts that do this and will be shutting them off.

In the link above.
I assume shutting them off means banning them. And if you notice I mentioned "whatever," so I am not claiming anything specific.

What about as a form of protest. It's not an excuse, but it is a reason. First night Valve wouldn't let me load it onto the Laptop after I had loaded it onto the desktop. Only today did it finally work. If it hand't I'd have been pretty pissed and would've resorted to cracks and piracy techniques to get satisfaction.

Remember not everyone is cheap or trying to shirk their role in the process, but others are sick of being seen as only dollar signs to be bled dry.

Yeah anyone who's seen my writing on the subject knows that it's not as cut and dry as people like to make it.

And it's people like me who get rolled for the big bucks for the convenience of a DVD version (cheaper to press/make than 5 CDs! Thanks Valve/Vivendi [A$$h0le Marketers!]) who have payed for the pirates activities ten fold. Most pirates aren't kist sales, most wouldn't have bought anyways. And better copy protection wouldn't have changed marketing practices.

The entertinment inductry let the Genie out of the bottle and now they wonder WTF happened. Heck it was Universal who admitted to overcharging for CDs, so go ahead and F'em for me!

Really I don't care. You're sending that info to the wrong personm and I think the only other person here doesn't care tha much either.

However I will mention that you list of RIAA members is not the companies it's made up of people who WORK for those companies. There's a big difference.

Personally I think they are all scum who are more interested in maintaining the 'industry' more than the art or the artists, ust look at what happened to Valve with the release of HL2.

oops, sorry abt that. Wrong reply. Well, they are scum indeed. thats y I wish Valve seperated and used steam. ANd thats why I still dont like MPAA/RIAA and all those money making bastards. Vivendi was lucky to have Valve. I even heard a rumor of someone bidding for Valve, but Vivendi rejected. And Vivendi shares are still crappy. Apple once made a bid to buy their music out.

no i still hate them. They are scums. They are charging us for crappy songs. But I never meant that I disobey them by pirating music. Like for example, I like 1 song in a whole 15 song CD. Now before itunes times, you had to buy the entire CD. I wont do that. Didnt do that then. Nor do that now. But as I get what I pay for via iTunes - I am happy with that. They are still scums, bcos they are the ones still not that happy with Itunes. Want the prices there raised. But apple is on the control with its success.

Also I never called/thought/hinted RIAA as a superhero.
