I agree FF9 absolutely ownz, yet I managed to erase my saved games lmao. So I had to restart, not that I complain. And yes if u've seen the movies, they are awesome, I think the best one is at the beginning of disc 4, where they go after Kuja, all those dragons and then Cid's fleet comes in, it's amazing : )

Dunno if it's possible to rip FF9 movies tho, although I saw methods to do it with ff8

Old specs. Latest are 733 P3, with 10GB hard drive. How will they sell this for $299 and still make a profit?

Think about it. Motherboard, nForce chipset including network abilities, modem, sound better the SoundBlaster, and Gforce3 type graphics, 10GB hard drive, and 733mhz P3. Can we build such a system for 299? Impossible. Looks like someone is overpaying for components (us).

I've heard from a few different sources that Microsoft is losing like $50 on every box sold, but I have no idea if that's true. And yeah, we probably are overpaying for components.

Not to be annoying, but if you want a statement that you've said that isn't true, how about, "My Athlon can beat your Ferrari off the line."

Sure, my Ferrari may only be a little Matchbox car, but at least it has wheels. Unless you went crazy with Superglue, I highly doubt your Athlon has any wheels, and therefore won't go anywhere anytime soon.

Seriously though, it wouldn't surpise me in any way if the X-Box was being sold at a loss. A LOT of consoles are sold at a loss. Why? Because the companies make that money right back up again with the sale of the games and the licensing to other software and hardware companies.

Still, the mobo from nVidia probably has everything but the CPU built in, so it's cheap to produce. And you can't tell me that a P3-733 sells for much these days, what with P4 1.8GHz monstrosities out. So the X-Box console is probably being sold at cost at the absolute worst.

What I want to know is what it'll take to upgrade an X-Box. It'd be cool to slip a P3 1.13GHz in and an 80GB HD in. (And to increase the RAM too. I just don't know what RAM is going into it.)

Yeah, we know a ripper for FF9 isn't that great. That's why we started talking about the FF movie and the X-Box, becuase they're a lot more entertaining.

Just kidding. FF9 was a great game with reasonably-great movies. I especially loved the ending. But know of FF9 rippers, we do not. Sorry, but you'll probably have to write your own or hit the search engines with a fury.

I'm pretty sure that back in the day the consoles were sold at a loss if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if they are anymore though. It would seem that components are much cheaper nowadays, so maybe they're doing ok.

It's the games they make the cash on though. And maybe those stupid memory modules...

And that's why Sega crumbled. The Dreamcasts sold at a loss and there was nothing to make that revinue up with. No one wanted to license anything from Sega, and Sega sure as heck wasn't writing enough software to support itself.

But then, Sega has almost always been the joke of the console community anyway. It was no surprise that they had yet another failure, even if for once this one was actually a technological advancement.

To my knowledge, Sega's last console technological advancement was the Sega Master System. The Genesis being labeled as an advancement was arguable at best because it was a dual 8-bit processor system instead of a true 16-bit processor system. And certainly their 32X console after that wasn't because they were just using four 8-bit processors tied together instead of a true 32-bit processor.

It's no wonder that Sega lost so many companies that had previously licensed for Sega consoles, what with the way that they just kept re-using 8-bit processors instead of actually designing a new processor. So when their first truely advanced technology console since the Master System came out, there was almost no one left that wanted to associate their name to Sega. Hence failure and Sega's doom.
