Hi all,
I'm trying to decide how to deal with a goofball on eBay. Here's a
short version of our fun so far.
On May 10, trilite37 wins my Double Dragon board for $71. Before I can
send him an invoice, he's listed as "no longer a registered user."
Another eBay member emails to warn me that he will probably flake out.
And he does... and sends me a message saying he had found the board
somewhere else, so can we just forget about it.
Fine, whatever. I relist, and lo and behold a brand new user, Namco756,
(coincidentally in the same Canadian postal code!), wins the item for
$26. When he sends me his location, he does it through eBay with his
email address hidden... probably a bad sign.
Anyway, I'm 99.9% sure it's the same guy, and I have no intention of
following up any further after I've already wasted plenty of time
listing it twice. Any suggestions on how to end this? I'd rather toss
the board in the garbage at this point than send it to anyone like
this, but I'd also like to keep my feedback clean.
The item numbers were 6176338689 and 6183877528 if anyone's curious.

Seth,
Options:
1) FIle a non paying bidder alert. In the choices for the reason you
are filing choose "Buyer no longer wants the item" Or "We have decided
not to complete the transaction" - If/When he or ebay demands further
explanation cut-n-paste his email telling you no thanks into the form.
If it is him, he should have caught on that you know and will lay off
if he knows whats best for his new fake account.

It's simple...email him and tell him you cannot accept bids from users with
5 or less feedbacks and then cancel his bid!---then BLOCK both the old and
new user address...You're right---do NOT waste time with these worthless
useless get-a-life scumbuckets!!

And while you're at it, try a second-chance offer to one of the losing
bidders of the first auction. $71 for a DD board sounds really high to
me. As a seller, I'd jump all over that.

The first auction I assume you have already resolved yourself to forget
about since you already relisted the item. That being said,
Send the winning bidder (who ever it is) an invoice and if they pay for
it, send them their board. Seems simple to me. Finish your obligation as
a seller and move on.
Just my opinion.
Aaron.
PS, charge a little extra on shipping if it will make you feel better.

I agree with the assessment below. You "blew" your chance by not offering
it to the second bidder (or maybe you did). You can't really prove this is
the same guy so there doesn't seem to be much you can do.

What's your eBay ID?

Unfortunately, the back up bidder had already found another DD board by
the time I got through eBay's waiting period to relist and get the fees
back. I would have much rather gone that route, but wanted to make sure
the first ID the guy was using had a NPB mark.
As far as "finishing your obligation" - I don't feel strongly obliged
to finish a transaction with a deadbeat that screwed me on the same
item a month earlier. That's just silly.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Todd and Matt's responses make sense
to me... I'm pretty sure this bidder will be flagged for his continuing
antics soon. And yeah, $71 was pretty high for a Double Dragon II. It's
amazing how people will go when bidding with imaginary money.
