X800 & X800XL - 9,000 in 3dmark03 for $249

The inq caught my attention with info on these two cards. PCI-e only??? hope not. The 16 pipe XL for $350 seems like it could become a real winner. I hadn't heard a word of these, but I hope they release an AGP version and they become readily available all over.

OK, this is way down on the second page so I needed a BUMP. I found it to be a nice surprise anyway.

This card looks to outperform the GF6800 for $249, and the $349 XL may top the 6800GT. Plus no molex connector; no external power cable needed, just what is supplied through the PCI-e.

This should be Grapes next card not the 6600GT or X700 Pro. (*Prompt's Grape to start a wave of responses.*)

Next card will likely be a slot filler (GF6600 vanilla look like it) until the R5xx/N5x arrives), however with the way HL2 is canning my rig, I'm thinking you might be right. Something more substantial may be in order. I like the 0.11 idea and the efficiencies, but I hate that cooler (hopeful HIS or someone does a REAL job on it, or else it's VGA cooler for me [heck even a heatpipe would be nicer]).

EDIT: I would've also liked to see a strong move to wards dual DVI in all the top cards in the segments, just like the X850XTPE has.

Actually showing 3dmark03 scores makes more sense than 05 or 2001. Because 3DMark03 is the least system dependent and most accurate synthetic for them to portray a graphics card comparison worth looking at. A 20% increase in 3dmark2001se can be gained from just a small cpu overclock, but not in 03. 9K in 03 like they stated, is 50% faster than a 9800 pro. So in a graphics card forum like this, 03 is the one that really means the most, whereas over in CPU's 2001se scores are more likely to be used.

X800 & X800XL - 9,000 in 3dmark03

Is that all they score i have seen 6800 128 get 10000 plus on standard XP2500 systems.

3Dmark03 is the only free version that shows the additional information like Multi-Texture & Single Texture Fill-Rates, etc. On 3Dmk05 these are now premium features. Also 3Dmk03's Battle of the Proxycon more closely matches the stresses of D3 than 3Dmk05's tests.

Why stop using something that gives you information you can use? Heck if it was as relevant I'd still use 3Dmk2000 and 99.

Yeah, I just went shopping during my lunch break today (thus little activity from me in forums), looking at Bib-pants; a newer helmet; new boots [downtown stores SUCK!]; 140-155cm 'rock skiis' to also act as my go between for powdery days where the sno-blades won't work well when I don't feel like using the 197 or 210s; and a newer wet stone for my edges. I have money set aside for the ski season ($1000-1500 for new gear, then about $500/month for gas/lift tickets/ etc.)

I have $1500-2000 set aside for the new build, and I'm just wiaitng for a new mobo to decide on what to cannabalize and what I need from scratch. I want to keep my slot loading DVD-ROM, get a 16x LG-DVD-Burner to replace the 4x (move that to the editing rig and give away/sell the 2X to a friend who does some family movies with his DV cam on his Supah 2ghz Celeron Rig  ), Keep the 512mb Stick of Corsair DDR400 CL2 and get similar second stick (Probably this weekend or sooner), I still haven't decided on the case, but the CM Stacker is #1 on the list, just wish I could find a GOOD ATX/BTX Cube (not SFF).

Most of this stuff is covered and budgeted for. I'm smart with my money (why I'm not buying an X700XT or GF6600GT as my tempo card before the 5xx series cards).

I'm gonna go to Louise this weekend for the Men's Downhill, but it's not too expensive, and considering I have no Hockey Ticket expenses this year, I'm saving ALOT of money for skiing and computers. :frown:

Well, lift tickets are ~$50CDN/day, but discount cards get you better rates. I can't justify I mid-week pass this year, because now I have less flexability in my schedule. Adult Season's Pass is ~$1000, and multi-mountain passes start at about $1200-1400. I'm going to use the discount cards, but the sason's passes are out because I like going to different mountains and following the fresher snow and different terrains.

A day at Sunshine about $100 all tolled (gas, ticket, etc). Castle mountain (~$125 [mostly gas]), Fernie or Jasper about ($150+ [lots gas for both, also expensive lift tickets and food, etc]).

9,000 was for a card that lists for $249 verse the 6800's $299. Of course 3dMarks aren't everything either as the plain X800 is supposed to surpass that 6800 elseswhere. The XL version they claim will outdo the 6800GT and list for $350. These are steps in the right direction if ATI manages to outperform NV's offerings for $50 less. In the end I see this announcement not just as good news for ATI, but for us as well. Now we just need NV to raise the bar and make cheaper cards outperfom the X800/XL; and so on.

And again, the XP2500+ you mention means little to 3dMark03 as a tiny core/memory OC on the GF6800 would overcome any jump gained by raising the cpu to a high end A64.

Well remember nV does have cards coming through the pipe. The NV41 will still carry the GF6800 nametag, but be newer refresh (native/not bridged PCIe, reworked HDTV, etc).
