Has anyone looked at the Nintendo GameCube? It sucks ass. It's purple, has REALLY cheesy looking controllers, the games are gonna be pathetic.
Why are they even bothering?

Hehe, gaycubes got a handle and IMacs got a handle. Know what both those handles are good for? Chucking the piece O' [-peep-] in the trash!

It's the newest console from Nintendo. They've actually gone to CD instead of cartridge, and you can play DVDs if you buy the additional attachment. And it's about half as powerful as an Xbox.

I don't see the point in ANY game console.

For games that are NOT supported on the PC.

Yeah, and the fact that they're easier to use, cheaper and use a bigger screen (the TV). PCs are better overall, but consoles have their strengths.

The GameCube has ATI graphics. What a shame. ATI is too good a company to waste their time with such a crappy product.

Very few games have caught my eye though due to the poor quality in graphics IMOP.

Output your computer to your tv if you want a bigger screen.

The only strength with the consoles has been that they're easy to have several people play at once, but LAN parties have been more fun, and more people can play.

I guess I must be the only one here looking forward to getting a Game Cube. Ah well. I guess there has to be one in every crowd, or else it would just be a mob.

Hey, good to see someone with an actual opinion about the GameCube.

Why are you buying one? I'm interested. And no, I won't flame you, don't worry.

Graphics doesn't make a game...it only adds to the experience.

Well let me rephrase then. Consoles look like [-peep-] imop. They've always been 2 steps behind and there has always been enough games for the PC to not even make me flinch in the direction of a game console. :)

To be honest though I still haven't seen the PS2 in action, so maybe that looks good. The x-box sounds pretty good too. But even the PS1 was never worth buying. Grand Turismo was an awesome game, but I couldn't justify buying a whole console for one game.

speaking of the devil...i once bought a used N64 just to play Zelda Ocarina of Time...
I'd have to say it was worth it (the game was SUPER AWSOME)...after beating the game, i just sold it and traded my n64 for a TV-Tuner.

Well, okay, here goes my thoughts on why I'm looking forward to a Game Cube.

We all know that today it's the graphics card more than the PC itself that makes a game platform perform. And Nintendo has been devoting itself to graphics for a long time. Also, of all of the consoles coming out, Nintendo is the only company marketting theirs purely for games. Not for internet use, not for playing movies, not for anything other than GAMES. So of all of the consoles, I'll be expecting the Game Cube to have the best feel to it, if not the best graphics.

But, strangely it has almost nothing to do with that. The main reason I'm looking forward to the Game Cube are the games themselves. Nintendo has had a LONG standing notoriety for making some truely addictive games. They're not always about amazing graphics or killer sound tracks. They're about being fun and having replayability. Fun and story-line come first, and the graphics and sound come second for every game that Nintendo themselves have made.

And look at their long-running genres. They have Mario games. They have Zelda games. They have Metroid games. They even have F-Zero and Mario Kart coming back in style. All have been great. So I look forward to the Game Cube simply to play the next Metroid and the next Zelda. (And maybe when I'm through with them, spend some time with Mario as well.)

Who knows? Maybe with some luck, Nintendo can even get Square-EA to come back to them for future releases of Final Fantasy. Or maybe they'll be able to contract out remakes of all of the old FF Japanese releases that never officially (yay emulators!) made it to America.

You never know. Square left Nintendo simply because they took too long to market the N64, and the SNES was severely limiting their plans for FF7. Then the N64 didn't catch on as well as Nintendo had hoped because, well, Nintendo was kind of stupid in requiring all games for the N64 to be 3D and the N64, being a cart-based system, didn't have the ability to burn a few MPEG tracks onto the game CD as well for music and for video. But now with the Game Cube, they're joining the crowd with a micro-DVD format.

So there's no reason for companies that left Nintendo because of the N64 not to go back now that Nintendo has a killer-console that uses CDs and doesn't require every game to be 3D to be officially licensed. Which could make for a LOT of fun games (Einhander 2?) for the Game Cube that aren't even Nintendo's development. Of all of the consoles out there, I'm looking to the Game Cube to provide my games. The PS2 might be good, but they're trying to turn it into a home entertainment center, not just a gaming machine. The X-Box is so much like a PC that I'll expect any title to be released for the X-Box to be released for the PC as well, so I won't need to get an X-Box. But the Game Cube, it'll have Nintendo's games and gaming-ology behind it, and that means a lot in itself. So to me, it looks like a must-have for the console-game fanatic. :)

Very interesting information in this post. I never even knew that FF7 was supposed to be released for N64. UGH I'd hate to see FF7 on a single SNES cartridge.
Personally I am for any console that plays the Final Fantasies :) although I played all my FF's using the emulators. With FFX coming out for PS2, I'll be hardpressed to either buy the console just for the one game, or write my own emulator :D

Now for gamecube, their Zelda series, although not as good as FF, is still very entertaining. Considering "Ocarina of Time" graphics, I wouldn't be surprised if these consoles were bought just to play a couple of RPG's.

It's a shame that the Gamecube will not be backward compatible with the N64 cartridges. At least Sony did something right by making the PS2 backward compatible with the PS1.

Regardless, I already have a Gamecube on reserve for my son, along with an XBOX as well. There are simply too many great games that appear on one platform only.

I bet they wouldn't let that monster gf3(?) on the chipset show the BLUE screen of death, they'll make it 32 bit color and randomly generate hell-like scene, those vertex and pixel shaders will do wonders :)

Well i look forward for the Gamecube got to love the Desing of it. Well its going to have the sucess as the SNES in my view. Squaresoft should go back to nintendo. Square left nintendo due to the fact the N64 wasn't Disc based and left to Sony Suckstation. Well Square wont make anything for the Xbox witch is a joke *Radeon 3 is faster then the Xbox graphics*. Well Nintendo did the smart thing to based there console easier to program and better gameplay. Xbox controllers suck more then the PS2. Graphics aren't everything too. Look at Nintendo vs. Sega in the early 90's. Well sega's console was more powerful but nintendo won based on gameplay. Nintendo saved the Console market *NES* and SOON TO BECOME NO.1 IN THERE BUSINESS.

Nice Intel and AMD users get a Cookie.... Yummy

speaking of good gameplay...

overall, the "sony suckstation" is better than the N64 (and im not being bias because I owned both consoles). they have MORE better games than the N64...i only have 2 or 3 games for the n64 which i would call "great"...while i can name dozens of games for the playstation....

btw..
the playstation was (and still is) the best selling game console ever along with the most sold games....(250 million people cant be wrong) numbers don't lie...but I think the PS2 will take the crown from its little brother....

I bet you all the money in the world multiplied by 3--that the Crapcube's number in sales and popularity won't even come close to PS2!!!

Give it a year and the GameCube will blow away the sells of PS2s and the Xbox will be cancelled. My predictions. Gamecube will sell well.

Reply to noko

Gamecube may sell, but it'll take more than a year.
How many PS2s did Sony sell in its first 2 weeks?? I forgot, I lost count after a million.

I'm not too sure. Gamecube might sell well in japan even though people there have been a bit apethetic on this console. Worldwide it will sell to the enthusiasts, and perhaps to some technophobe families with young children. It can safely be said that the sale figure for that console will no way match the PS2. It does however have a decent chance of outselling the XBox.

The XBox does have a certain appeal to PC owners that want games to have the depth of PC titles yet the simplicity of a console. I doubt any of these people would want an GameCube. Plus, the cuddly purple box is more than enough to put off some more people.

The PS2 design says class all over it. It is something people can proudly place in their living room. Even if they have a hyper expensive audiovisual system, this box won't take anything away from the look of the room. A purple cube however is something that must be hidden away in the cupboard. The XBox might just fit in with the rest of the midi sized equipment, but it does look bulky. I suppose microsoft don't care. As far as I know, their marketting message is: We are Microsoft, Resistance is futile, your needs are irrelevant.. And for some twisted reason, it actually works.
