I keep getting random crashes ever since I installed my ATI AIW9800Pro. They occur totally at random, sometimes after 30seconds, sometimes several hours. If I am playing a game, then the system will either lock up or reset, and if I am on the desktop, it will crash and the VPU recovery will switch over to software mode and mail an error report. When the card is running, it runs perfectly normally.
I have tried new and old drivers for everything, and I am at a total loss. I think it may be a bad card.
My computer was doing exactly that, and it ended up being a bad stick of ram. Try running memtest86, ya never know, I checked everything else before I checked that.
But on the other hand it does sound like either your running out of power, or maybe the card / proc is getting to hot.
The memory runs fine. Just re-scanned. I wasn't expecting it to be bad anyway, since my computer was really stable with my old video card (Ti4200).
It's not heat, I have had the card crash when it was jsut booted for the first time in the morning. Also I put a VGA silencer on to see if that helped. Now I am worried that I won't be able to RMA the card if I need to, since I couldn't remove the old crappy heatsink without damaging the plastic clips.
Now, it's down to three possibilities.
1: PSU doesn't meet spec (5V rail is 4.68-4.72)
2: BIOS needs flashing, new version released last Friday
3: Card is bad and needs warranty
