On returning from holiday I found a System Restore point labelled
"Software Distribution Service 2.0". I have no idea what this is and it
seems to have been put on when the computer wasn't even switched on. I
have been told that it might be something to do with Automatic Update.
It is not on Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

However, I now cannot scan for viruses and get the message "Failed
because of a critical error during the scan". I am using Norton 2002
with updated virus definitions. I am running XP SP2. I have tried System
Restore to before the date in question but it won't do it.

What is it and what can I do about it? How do I get rid of it?
