I'm about to give up on this kit. Forst I bought a working kit from a
friend, but unbeknownst to him he bought a kit with a bad HD. No
biggie. So I buy a replacement HD and the game comes up just fine.
Now, when you start a game, it gives you an error code "REAM error" and
says something at the bottom like "three taps and you're out."
The error occurs with the security chip installed, or removed. it makes
no difference.
Any ideas how to fix this problem? The new HD is verified good, and
all 4 eproms are verified good as well. I don't have any way to test
the security board.

Three taps means hit the start button 3 times and you will get out of
the test screen. If the game them plays a little and then does the same
thing it is the security chip try reversing it. Ted

I have the security chip mounted correctly according to the indent on
both the main board and the 8 pin connector.
As a last resort I tried reversing the chip and the problem persisted.
Any other ideas?
Or, does anyone know where I could get a replacement security chip?
I swapped the original A51 set back in and the game plays fine, so it's
definately a problem with the conersion kit.

Do a search on this group on Area 51 max force kits . There is a guy in
Indiana who makes and sells the kits. You probably woofed the chip when
you tried it both ways. He also has hard drives for sale. You see him
up on Ebay all the time with his kits. He might sell you just the
security chip..
Good luck
