edit: fixed. Thanks for the help

I just replaced my old GeForce3 Ti200 with an AGP 6600GT. I have updated with the latest Forceware drivers.

My system is as follows:

PIV 2.4c @ 3.12ghz
1gig PC3200 RAM
ASUS P4P800 mb
350W power supply
WinXP Pro

The card seemed to install fine. I can run Windows and browse websites with no trouble whatsoever. I can play DVDs with no trouble whatsoever. The trouble begins when I try to play a game.

The card performs well, but after about 1 minute the monitor turns off, the computer doesn't respond, but doesn't reset (ie it remains powered). It does this for anything from Quake3 to Doom3. It is not overheating (the fan is working fine and the onboard temp monitor has it running nice and cool).

I thought perhaps power may be a problem, so I brought my CPU down from 3.12ghz to the stock 2.4. I still get the same problem. Also, the card claims to be ok for 300W, so in theory I would be ok with 350.

One thing I notice is when I go into the device settings, it says under Adaptor Information, Bus: PCIx0

It should be AGP, but I don't see how it could be a problem. Is this a sign of driver trouble?

Any advice is appreciated. Like I said, only 3d applications give it trouble, and only after running for a minute or two. It is not overheating. So I guess it is a power or driver problem?

If it were a driver problem U will experience the interruptions from the beginning...however...delete the driver U have and reinstall the newest one.

If your computer has an AGP slot for the video card and by mistake you been given a PCI video card...then you must find out if that is the case.Call the manufacturer.

As far as power supply issues you seem to have enough power from your 350 Watts unit...however...you must consider that
many power supply units (even from known brands) do not have the amount of power they claim they deliver and in some cases are WAY under the rating they are given by the manufacturer....

If you have an off brand power supply...I recomend you to change it....and buy one that is above 50 dollars.

You need to install chipset drivers

If it was a PCIe verses an AGP card, it would not operate, or fit.

Prolly the AGP chipset drivers

If it says PCIx0 under the Nvidia driver info, that means the motherboard chipset drivers are not installed. I forgot one time, and wow, big mistake. My 3DMark score was like 1/4 of what it should have been. Reinstall the chipset drivers, and it should say AGP 8x.
