For Doom 3...
Go to Mars. Perform some freaky, unethical experiments. Open a portal to Hell. Grab a shotgun and flashlight and kill demons.

For HL 2
Travel to City 17. Get crabs.

What I do is purchase the game. When I go home, I open the box and inhale the fresh-plastic-color-print smell, and then I insert Disc 1 into the CD-ROM tray. Then the menu appears, and I install the game. This usually takes a while, as some games are pushing up to 5 CDs for installation. Once that's done, you are ready to play.

One thing to keep in mind is that different computers have different levels of performance. You can adjust the 3D settings to find a nice balance between quality and performance. I know this is all a lot of information for you, but bear with me- you'll learn it sooner than you think.

I tried your instructions, but I had to use a pin to get the CD-Rom open, and when I inserted CD#1 and got it closed, nothing happened... I saw no menu, and in fact, I still have no video display and my monitor is not even working... you suck...

It's probably a problem with the Power Supply. Stick a fork in the wall socket, that usually jump starts the power.
