My ex wife is Swedish. She's taking off back home soon and wants to take the DVD player and one of the computer systems. Cant this be done?

Are the DVD players in the US compatable with the DVD's in Europe (Besides the power plugs). If anyone has any type of experience with this stuff let me know...

Thanks

DVD's are region encoded,

Europe is a different region to US so unless the DVD player has been unlocked to play all regions(quite often this is fairly simple) it won't play european discs, she'll have to buy US ones via the internet (generally this is cheaper and the discs are better specced anyway)

use DVD Genie to change the region code as many times as you want.

I couldn't even get my discman to work in sweden. I left all my electronics over there and I'm not taking any more there next time I go.

I suppose that if you got a new power cable and you could somehow change the region code it might work, but where do you change the voltage on a dvd player? Does the cable take care of that? I don't think so. A converter is NOT a good idea.

As far as a computer is concerned, wouldn't a new Powersupply and cable do the job?

I have no idea, but I wouldn't bother.

I normally find the a swift kick up the PSU kinda like jumps it into somekind of response.

Maybe not the one you are after but still. worth a try.

Do the computer cases there require different PSU's? I always thought that there were power converters available.

I would set her up with DVD genie but it is a set top DVD player not a computer based one.

I have a switch on my PSU for 110V or 220V. Flick the switch and use the apropriate cable for your country and your all set.

Sweden is in region 2 I think. I´m not sure but it´s not the same as the US anyways. However I think that most DVD-players can change the region which it is locked to 5 times.

I know I can atleast play UK dvd:s and I live in sweden.

She´ll need a voltage converter though...

to mbaha: don´t bullshit other countries when you can´t even spell the word "country" and btw I like this commie country.

A DVD for home theater will probably not work, different standards. A computer DVD player will work. You have to make sure the DVD player has region free bios, then change the region for the software. The computer will work as long as it has the 110v/220v switch on the back. She will have to pick up a new power cable with the proper wall plug, but those should be cheap.

She's gotta take the TV with her as well - Sweden is PAL based video, your DVD player will be NTSC
