The 9550 is a Radeon 9600. If you fnd a 128-bit 9550, it should overclock well on the GPU, and give close to 9600 PRO performance (if the memory overclocks as well).

However, the 64-bit versions of the 9550 are the same as 9600LEs, which really suck.

The 128-bit version is really the best budget card out there IMHO, but if you're looking to noticably step up from your Ti4200, look for a 9700 or 9800 series card at the very least.

If you're looking for comperable performance, the 9550 will do great BUT ONLY if you overclock it. At stock clocks, it's pretty weak and will probably be a smidge slower than your Ti4200. But the 9550's overclock very high, like their 9600 brethren. The core should even go to 9600XT speeds with decent cooling.

Because they were the creme of the crop 2 gens ago.

The 9600 was a mid-card one gen ago...

DUDE!!!

a Ti4200 is a wayyyy better card than a 9550. Even though it's dx8 tech.

I went from an 8500LE > 9500Pro > Ti4200 > FX5700U > 9600XT > R9800 in the past year or so, I know how good the Ti4200 performs.

I thought so. That is sad to hear. Hope you didn't pay $200 like I did for mine.

I wasn't yet around for that one. Shouldn't try removing the heatsink after too many beers GW.

That just sucks. I guess the way you treat them, one is bound to go. Too bad it wasn't the 8500 instead.

Price range is around €100.

It's just the DX9 compatibility that I'm worried about. It'd be pretty galling to buy a game some day and then to realise that it won't render some of the DX9 graphics.
