I have a laptop equipped with the 32mb ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. I plan to buy a 20" widescreen monitor, which would be running at a resolution of 1600 X 1000.
Would I see a decrease in performance due to this? I don't plan to play games. I would mostly be doing work, or watching DVDs.

Hopefully you shouldnt.

<b><font color=red>Amount of video ram required (in bytes):
= (#bytes-per-pixel ie color bytes) * (total-number-of-pixels)
= ( 4 bytes ) x ( 1600 x 1000 )
= 6400000 bytes
= ~6 MB
</b></font color=red>
and your card is 32 MB.

Color bytes means color depth
16 bit = 2 bytes
32 bit = 4 bytes

My Radeon DDR (earlier version of your card) with 32MB had no problems at that setting.
