HIS X800XL has Dual DVI

So it looks like it won't only be the X850XT that will go dual DVI it'll be left up to the Mfr, and in this case HIS has decided to equip the attractive little X800XL with dual DVI, and better cooling solution that the Standard BBA card.

I'm really liking that card, but it'll dpeend on pricing.

They indeed look good. Will they be getting out ICEQ ones ? Notice that the box shows HL2 logo, but accessories dont include HL2.

 <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/priyajeet/fing.jpg" target="_new"><i><font color=red>Very funny, Scotty.</font color=red><font color=blue> Now beam down my clothes.</font color=blue></i></A> <P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by priyajeet on 12/06/04 04:44 PM.</EM></FONT></P>

I don't know if there will be IceQ ones (I would love it though if they did). They have IceQ for just about every other model (x800XTPE/XT/PRO [+/-VIVO]; X700PRO[+/- VIVO]), so I'd expect a version eventually. But even the one they added is nice (kinda like the R9800XT one).

As for HL2, what did you expect them to actually ship with HL2, like those nV cards shipping with D3? Nah! ATI would never do that, they much prefer to send you a scratch and win/sniff coupon for a game rather than the game itself.

Anywhoo, I think it just means it's HL2 approved or the prefered gear for HL2.

I just like the specs, 16 pipes, Hopefully Cooler less power hungry 0.11, Dual DVI and VIVO, and a sWeEet not cheap HSF so some OC potential for fun.

I'd still prefer going GF6600/X700 then R52x route, but if the XL is at a good enough price I may go XL to R52x. At the very least it may even be an X800 on 0.11 depending on results (sofar looks better than the X700Xt and GF6600GT, but only just) and pricing (I've seen the GF6600 for $190CDN [Gigabyte 256mb/MSI 128mb] and the GF6600GT [Asus/Gigabyte/MSI] for $255CDN, here). No X700s yet. Also a GF6200 for $145.

Which manufacturer's 6600GT would you choose? I haven't really seen any reviews comparing these cards yet(kinda new).

Personally I like Gigabyte motherboards and thus I would give them some credence in the mfr business. Their ATI cards are good quality, and I have seen their nV cards be reasonable quality. Of those available to me (ASUS/MSI/Gigabyte) I think that that would be the order of quality, but since I would be thinking of short term, then I'd give my money to Gigabyte because I like buying from companies that have done right by me, nothing against ASUS or MSI.

Also from what I'v heard ASUS have difficulty OC'ing for the GF6xxx series, but at stock speeds they are among the very best, and build quality is good. I'd prefer a Gainward maybe, but I haven't seen one yet, and I'm not about to spend extra pennies for something that I may swap out rather quickly.

If I do get a GF6600, then I might even keep it simply to compare IQ, like nV SM3.0 to ATI SM3.0 in the future, even if it's a slide show on the 6600. Alot of it will have to do with my view of the future, be it new hardware, or the new games. Right now I'd just like to crank things up a notch or two on D3 and HL2, both of which would benifit from more CPU than VPU IMO.

LOL!

I just found my first X700 card listed on a big Canadian distributor;

<A HREF="http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=13408&vpn=RX700XT-VT2D256E&manufacture=MicroStar" target="_new">http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=13408&vpn=RX700XT-VT2D256E&manufacture=MicroStar</A>

Look at that Price Tag! 1128.87 CDN! That's $940US! And yet they sell the X800XT for ~$700!

They explain it as a filler price so no one will buy it until they have the real price, but here's an idea, don't post a damn thing until you know the REAL price, Idiots!

But it is a nice looking card, 256mb version of the X700XT, with VIVO.

Illustrious
The X800XL impressed me when I first caught wind of it, and it keeps looking better and better. I predict it'll be to the R4xx generation what the 9500 PRO was to the R3xx generation... maybe too good, maybe too cheap for the consumer, maybe to expensive to produce... and something that might have to get neutered or cut off by Ati so that it doesn't erode the market from the higher echelons of graphics cards. Lets hope it stays for good.

I figure I'll buy one when after the R5xx series comes out and it's at the bottom of it's price arc, maybe even in the $200 to $250 range.

Should be a big bump from my 9700 PRO... and a nice PCIe starting point for my upcoming A64 platform...

At 11 micron, betcha it'll OC real well, too. :)

Yeah, the 0.11 will be nice, the only thing is that it's not low-k. The R5xx (and Xbox's R500) are not only 0.09 but Low-kD 0.09 (the only process available to them from TSMC right now), so those should OC like a MoFo if they aren't already clocked at near 1ghz cores.

I'm almost tempet to just gett he X800XL, but the promise of an X700XT/X800XL class R5xx (probably an RV5xx) card is so tempting for the summer. But really I should take our own advice and go with the card for the games I play right NOW, not in the future! (Morrowind, UT2K4, D3, HL2 [when I have time!])
Nothing built based on SM3.0 for a while, not 'til UE3.0 IMO (FartCry SM3.0 and that stuff is simply window dressing on a PS2.0 geared engine), and nothing that would cripple the X800/GF6800 series on the horizon (There's Stalker and such but they should be relatively easy to handle). And the X800XL really looks attractive, I'd still like to see power consumption and heat numbers for it (Digit-Life did the X850 already). And while PCI-SIG may have updated their PCIE 1.0 standard to 150w (more than the AGP_PRO110 standard, and double normal PCIe, I still don't like high power cards, even if I don't have to plug them in. I will however hope for a board that supports the new standard so it can put the R5xx/NV5x in without a hitch.
I really like the looks of that HIS one, and with VIVO and All, F'in Woo-Hoo!
We get ALOT of OEM HIS cards here in Calagry, so looking forward to that. I advised a friend to buy their R9000Pro with VIVO OEM, for under $100 2 years ago, and it's one of those purchases where once I sold my R8500DV I was like, hey I'd like one of those for the Editing rig, nope, no more. I will be keeping my eye open for a Canadian price, if it's under $400 (hopefully closer to $350), then I'm all over that in the spring (I've spent $1,000 sofar on new ski gear, and just as much on stuff for the car.

<b>HB</b>, yeah It's funny seeing all the X800XTPEs on their site for about $300+CDN less than that X700XT. Nuts. The MSI X700XT though looks like an F'in nice model though also with dual DVI and plus the 256mb of memory and ok cooler, etc.

Alright Grape, my big question is what is nVidia going to do? They can't produce a beefier NV40, so are they forced to sit on their hands until springtime? Does anyone have any links to info about NV50, or is it pretty much under wraps right now?

<A HREF="http://atomfilms.shockwave.com/landing/landingIndex.jsp?id=dumb01&mature=accept" target="_new">DumbLand</A>

<A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=422627#422627" target="_new">Link to NV50, or that there won't be one soon</A>

nV's big play seems to be SLI I guess. And that being the case, if an R5xx is cheaper than 2 GT or Ultras, and faster, then it'd be far more attractive IMO. I'm sure nV will have something, but right now they don't feel pressured to bring anything out right now, they will let ATI make the first move.

EDIT: Also expect there to be some rumblings about the potential of the NV47 (24pipes) by Spring/Summer.
