I just got a Dell 4300c desktop. Its a small form factor case. It came with integrated graphips, but I went ahead and ordered a GeForce 6600 GT (pci express). Today I got the card, and to my horror realized it doesnt fit....the box only accepts half haight cards (low profile). Needless to say, Im disappointed. Can anyone recommend a low profile pci express card? I'll be running dual lcd's on this thing. Your help is very much appreciated.

Even if you can find a half-height PCI-Express card, it's unlikely it will support dual DVI, as half-height barely has enough room for dual VGA connectors!

You could sell your system and buy something else. You could buy a board, power supply, and case, then transfer your parts to it. And if the board resembles some standard layout, you might be able to get by with just a case and power supply.

Nah, hosed means no options. You got options, just not pretty ones.

You'll laugh, but im seriously considering the dremel option...My case would remain open (card is too big for it to close), but otherwise, is this a smart thing to do?

I wouldn't leave the side off the case, but if you are handy with a dremel and have the time and skill, a nice case mod might be a fun/useful solution.

Like Crash said, if you can find a full height case that fit's that motherboard, that would be great.

Personally, I would hack that case apart or sell it before I'd use integrated graphics. But without seeing it, not sure how easy it would be to do a nice looking sturdy job. How important is that dual DVI?

Your best non-dremel option IMO this X300SE;

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-123-143&depa=1" target="_new">http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-123-143&depa=1</A>

or something similar. And really, that's not an appealing option for the price.

There are a few other low-profile cards cards out there, but you'll have a tough time finding them. Look at this Quadro that allows you to split the DVI into two DB-15/VGA connectors;

So if you want to do any real gaming, you might have to mod your rig. Try getting a BananaSplit Cup from DairyQueen and then you could cut out a hole and cover it with that. :evil:

See above.

But how powerful do they have to be?

With the above, no modern gaming for you! :tongue:

Thanks you all for your replies! I realize my options are limited, so im on the phone with Dell getting an RMA....this things goin back. Still cant believe they sell systems that only accept half ass pci-express cards, with nobody actually making those cards.

Goodluck, hope it looks better than <A HREF="http://server3.uploadit.org/files/PaulDH-Delled.jpg" target="_new">this</A>. Of course yours will take longer than my 1 minute MS photoeditor butcher job. :eek:

Well they do make them, but they are of little use beyond the integrated graphics that comes with that thing.

For a DVD/Media PC it would be perfect, for anything involving real 3D, not gonna happen.

Don't let them exhange it for a 2400 or 3000 with no AGP or PCI-e slot. :lol:
