I am trying to modify a template. But I can't even locate the templates
folder, even when I type in its address (C:\Documents and Settings\user
name\Application Data\ Microsoft\Templates). Going down the heirarchy,
"Application Data" folder is absent from my user name folder. What's going
on here?

You might want to try the following.
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Folder Options.
Click on the View tab.
Make sure that "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is selected.
Click OK to close Folder Options.
See if you can now use locate the Templates Folder.
