I built my friend a PC a few weeks ago, and everything was running fine. Until a few days ago. Now when he boots, the screen hangs, and he then only has the option to reboot, and try to get into Windows again. Which usually ends up with the same thing: The screen right after the desktop shows up, hangs, and he only has the option to reboot. He is going to get xp soon, to see if that fixes it. Any suggestions would greatly be apprecaited. Thanking anyone in advance of course, Thanks.

He is currently running this:
Athlon xp 2100+
Windows 2000 pro
Albatron KX400-8XV Series motherboard
512mb of pc2700
GeForce 4 ti 4200
Maxtor 120gb hd

Hopefully, your friend has an Emergency Repair Disk, and also knows the administrative password, which would greatly simplify the repair process.

Hmmm endless loop of reboots? does it reboot automaticly? or do you have to reboot it manually? if this just start happening take a look at this site, you might have Blaster worm on your machine like the thousands and thousands of other ppl. I had 3 machines do an endless loop so far. I had to install 2k on another dir ie \winnt2 or whatever then run the fix. take a look and hope this helps. Also if you do upgrade to Xp anytime soon make sure you get this fix.
