My system is a bit old now, 1.4ghz athlon xp, 512mb of memory, Radeon 8500aiw, with windows xp. Was looking to upgrade graphics card and was trying to choose between a 9600 ,pro, xt, and maybe a 9800. Just wondered if anyone knew where the cpu bottleneck would start kicking in at ? Also an agp 4x board.
9600 is a bit weak and comes with slow RAM so it can't be overclocked to 9600 Pro levels. I'd probably go with the 9600 Pro or 9600XT, but be on the lookout for new-old-stock Radeon 9700 and 9700 Pro cards, as these are often cheaper then the 9600XT and much better cards.

Carefull with the advise of the 9800...ever since you may end up with a video card that is substantially faster than the CPU and not really get the benefit of a faster video card and when that happens the video card process the data so much faster that ends up waiting for the CPU to do its job and you end up with a bottle neck problem.
Buy a video card that will worok in sync with the older CPU...your choice of a 9600 is correct...
