Wierd problem trying to run NHL 2003

I've got a ton of games and they all run ok. So I'm pretty sure something's up with just this game.

Ok, I installed the game and everything was fine. When I clicked the desktop icon to start the game, it goes black like pretty much every game at first. Except when it's changing to the game, my taskbar at the bottom is still visible. Then from the taskbar it changes to Windows Media 9 controls(green/silver)with the rest of the screen black. Then it just freezes there.

I've defragged, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, but to no avail. All my other games that are currently on my system still work fine.

AMD Athlon XP 1500+
512mb Crucial PC2100
40gb Maxtor 7200rpm
GF4 Ti4200 64mb
Windows XP Home

Do you guys have any guesses?
