I've been using Thunderbird as well and it's worked pretty well for me. It was a bit of a pain to import the Outlook Express folders from my XP system because I have a lot of them and they use a hierarchical folder structure - I had to move folders around to recreate the structure since the folders all all simply imported at the top level. But it worked, I lost nothing, and I'm able to do everything I'm used to doing.
I use Thunderbird, too. I wanted to mention, as well, that MS's replacement for Windows Mail is the similarly named Window Live Mail. I don't use it, so can't comment on it's capabilities. You might want to check into it, though.
I liked Outlook Express, but it isn't available or supported in Vista.
Are you sure it is supported in Windows 7?
Outlook is far more than we need, and more expensive than I would like, but all these changes related to mail software makes me wary of anything from Microsoft.
I like to stay away from the software based email and stick to the web based email. Makes it very easy when you change computers, ect and has all the functions I could ever need for free.
A Windows Update just broke our Windows Mail in Vista, but we're upgrading to Windows 7 which I'm told doesn't have Windows Mail anyway.
So what mail software do people recommend for Windows 7?
I use gmail, keep a tab open on my browser (Opera). I use Outlook for calendar and contacts functionality, it also imports my gmail. (Wish I could set outlook up to not do that, but it seems to think that it is first and foremost an email client...)
