Is it true?...many posters indicate that changing video card brands (from Nvidia to ATI) can cause problems.
If correct...how do prevent that from happening?

Thanks for all replies.

yeah its true you have to make sure you get rid off all the NV drivers and their traces. go here http://www.drivercleaner.net/

You didn't need to start a new topic, just ask for more info in your other one. Anyway, yes it seems that NVidia's drivers seem to leave some nasties behind that can cause stability issues or slower performance when swapping to a new card. Most of the time there's no probblem.

It happens, but it's rare you need a OS reinstall for stability issues, but doing so can make sure you don't lose even a tad performance. 3dmark competing fanatics would want a new OS install for sure.

not to sweat though. As was said properly uninstalling your old NV drivers is a smart move. Remove them from within add/remove programs, and also using a driver removal tool such as driver cleaner, detonator destroyer, detonator RIP. Doing this your should be just fine. And by the way, swapping from a NV to a NV can also cause issues, so don't use this as a reason to stick to NV for good.

nV's drivers are so sticky it can even be bad going from nV to different nV. Ask those tossing their FX for GF6XXXs. Just use DriverCleaner, Detonator Destroyer or Detonator RIP before shuting down and installing the new card before reboot, and you should be fine.

While this happens alot both ways, (Ati to Matrox, etc), nVidia is notorious for their drivers not playing well with others, which is another reason why LArs/Borsti's experience with the SLI MOBO using both ATI and nV cards at the same time is so impressive.

They never said that they got full performance from both, did they? All I thought they did was get the cards to stop bitch-fighting eachother. I still think that 2x 6800Us would beat an X850XTpe in jsut about anything, negating the need for two different cards.

The one good thing I did see possible out of this was a dual-boot setup with a gaming card and a workstation (or even a Matrox) card. You just couldn't run them at the same time of course.

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.

Yeah personally a nice R52X beside a PCIe MATROX APV would be a nice combo. Now as the onboard RS480, and BAM, numero uno!
