SLI GF6600GT/6800GT/6800U @ IXBT

First, yes it's a Russian site, you probably can't read it, get over it and look at the pretty pictures and benchies, or else use Systran and translate it (can't link translations from them).

IMO, at quick 1600x1200 AA/AF glance, UT2004 results were surprisingly impressive. Farcry was surprisingly less-impressive than expected. HL2 unimpressive as expected. Doom 3 was even more impressive than expected. Thx for the link.

A FEW COMMENTS ABOUT THIS RUSIAN WEB SITE

Unless I am reading wrong (I tried to compare aples to aples) but this rusian website has conflicting results for the same cards on the same games.
Take a look at this results where you can really see the R9800XT and the R9800 Pro excell and the (incredible but true)NvidiaGeforce5950ultra also doing very well against the X800 and the 6800 series....no mention of the 6600 series (maybe it was not available yet).

http://www.ixbt.com/video2/over2k4-over.shtml

The impressive part of this results are the fact that cards like the 9800 family and the Geforce5900 family are doing so well.

Also take a close look at the benchies for specific games and specific cards because these results are very different
than the ones in the next benchmarks where (as an example) the R800XT gets an average of 52 +FPS but in the next tests under same conditions gets over 82 FPS. Confusing.

NOW FOR THE OTHER TESTS (which gets me very confused)

http://www.ixbt.com/video2/sli-d2.shtml#p14

In these tests the X800 series, 6800 series and 6600 series are the only contenders...no mention of the 9800 series
that in the same games beat some of the X800's and the 6800's and no mention of the GeForce 5950Ultra that also beat some of the X800 family and as well as the 6800 family.

Can you guys clarify this?...maybe I am not looking at this correctly.

Yeah, at those low resolutions, all cards above a 9700np (or so) get about the same results. Those results are very CPU bound.

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.

Well remember FartCry has an issue with SLI, it tends to start off load balancing and then shifting the load to just one card, so I'm not sure if they checked for that, but in any case FartCry doesn't seem to play well with SLI for now (and it's a TWIMTBP game). But it's still doing a good job @ 16x12 + AA/AF.

HL2 isn't impressive that's for sure, the best thing I found to look at for HL2 was the minimum FPS which got a good boost especially while playing at max resolution+AA/AF. But still it doesn't yield great returns and it's not worth getting IMO when you can get an X800XT-X850XTPE for cheaper overall.

Many games are turning in LOWER scores with SLI enabled, and that's because they aren't getting benifit from the setup but have to pay the price of load balancing, etc. This may simply be that the drivers don't know how to deal with these games. Also different rendering methods are needed for many (split screen vs alternate frame rendering) because they do not work in the other. The best method seems to be split screen, but the most useable and compatible is seeming to be the alternate frame method.
