I have a Radeon 8500 Series video card in my 2003 server box and I want to run a dual monitor setup. The card has a CRT monitor out and a DVI out. I am pretty sure that the DVI out is DVI-D (the extra D is for Digital). I want to purchase a DVI to VGA adapter, but I'm noticing that most specifically say they may not work with DVI-D. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
No VGA converter for DVI-D, only DVI-A and DVI-I. Make sure you know which it is. <A HREF="http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/dvi_info.html" target="_new">Guide</A>
Crash may know of something else, but I sure don't.
Also check to make sure your card supports dual monitor (other than TV). I know some of them (non-BBA) didn't support a second monitor despite having both connectors because they didn't have the extra TMDS and extra RAMDAC to support a second output. And all the 2 connecotrs did was allow you to chose your output. So double check.
I know Crash knows more about this than I do, my memory isn't as good as it used to be so I forget the limitations of this board.

Unfortunately, the board itself does not tell me exactly which edition it is from the 8500 series. I got the card from Gateway a while back (without drivers) and it seems to like the 8500 series drivers the best. The 8500 supports dual-monitor, but makes no mention whether or not it can support one VGA and one DVI to VGA. I am unable to find any place on ATI.com that allows me to search via the serial number or product number (pretty ridiculous that you cannot).
Saphire made most of the cards. I used to simply look at the board to see if it had the second RAMDAC. The reason I did that, rather than look at the connector itself, is that Saphire decided it would be cheaper to use the same DVD-I connector on both cards that had and didn't have the second RAMDAC required for the adapter to work.
