Checking C drive

Start > Run > Type "cmd" without the quotes > Enter button > Type "chkdsk /f
/r /x" again without the quotes > Hit enter > It will give you an error
message about the drive being locked and ask if you want to schedule it for
next boot > Type "y" without the quotes > Hit enter > Reboot > Get a cup of
coffee. Note that the /r implies /f but there's been too many times I've
seen it fail in the past so using both switches is a good idea in my
opinion.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Okay, this time try it by instering your XP CD, make sure you're set to boot
from CD (most PCs are) in the BIOS setup utility, and when you reboot,
you'll press a key to boot from CD, then it will ask what you want to do,
you'll select "R" to repair, from there you'll go ahead and run the same
command after you've picked the version of Windows that you'd like to
repair.
