i have some q's about the rails on r9800np:
1.What voltage rail is the GPU using on this card?
2.what voltage rail is the RAM using on this card?

I believe graphics cards use the 12v rail. Pretty sure about the GPU, not sure if the memory also uses it.

Do you use a 4-pin molex connector to the card? Then its using 12v.

I'm pretty sure the motherboard feeds all video cards 12v regardless.

The molex connector only supplements power for cards that require more than the mobo can provide...

Uh no they dont for the bios will allocate the voltage up to 2v for the new ones and 3v of the oler agp cards. Dont you have that option in your bois?

I was simply reposing to this person's posting by giving him a simple answer that the R9800s use the 4-pin molex connector which is 12v so that is what he has to monitor.

If you feed 12v through the AGP bus then any agp card will fry in seconds.

Hmmm... yeah, you're right that the mobo provides that low voltage of course. Don't know what I was thinking...

The motherboard uses the 3.3v rail to get basic operating power for the videocard, and steps it down as necessary. And if the card is one that needs more juice it takes 12v from the molex...

if the card really uses only the 12v from the molex, then how come i noticed a few days ago that the plastic packaging around the 5v molex wire is fryed? (brownish color, burnt smell)
