I have recently purchased an alienware desktop for hardcore gaming...
Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor w/ HT Technology Extreme Edition 3.4GHz 2MB Cache
Motherboard: Intel® D925XCV Desktop Board
Memory: 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz - 4 x 1024MB
Video Card: NVIDIA® GeForce™ 6800 Ultra PCI Express 256MB DDR3 w/Digital and TV Out
But I have been waiting for nearly 2 months because there is a shortage of 6800 Ultra cards over here (United Kingdon). I can't stand the wait... I am thinking of just letting them fit the next card down (6800 GT 256mb pci)
Assuming they'll give you the difference back, I'd go with the 6800GT. It's a really great card, and almost as good as the 6800 Ultra. You wouldn't be able to tell the performance difference unless you benchmark it.
And who knows? Maybe you'll be lucky and get one that can overclock to 6800 Ultra speeds.
But you will get a better deal getting the ATI X800Pro now and flashing it to the PE equivlant and it is available now for around $300 AGP or $400 PCI-E.

And the sign says "You got to have a membership card to get inside" Huh
So I got me a pen and paper And I made up my own little sign</pre><p></font color=red>
Umm, the 6800GT would be fine. or better yet, with the big bucks of a P4EE and 4GB of DDR2!!!, why not get them to throw a X850XT in it.
Just one ? though. Does alienware do A64's? I'd think an A64 3800+ would save you alot of cash and perform on par or better. That system must have cost a fortune.
