Hello all, I bought a radeon 9700pro made by FIC, and so far so good, however the speed posted via the fic overclocking ultility as well as powerstrip is core 325(correct) but the memory is at 290 or 580 ddr, both fics site and the merchants www.imagestore.com list it as the memory clocking @ 620 ddr (310mhz) I didnt know if anyone would know why in the world it is doing this

More about : 9700pro

Occasionally card makers clock low. This doesn't mean the memory is slow, just could be a BIOS anomaly.

What is the type of memory & rated memory speed on the modules? Likely they will do 310 mhz without a problem, probably a bit more.

well i can clock it to 310mhz no problem, however it scans as default speed at 290, and there isnt much performance gain in those 20mhz when benching the card, so I guess I will live with it seeing how neither FIC or imagestore has yet to reply after 4 days of messages. DONT BUY FROM IMAGESTORE.COM!!!!! And thanks for all your help!

"The core speed of 9700pro GPU is 325Mhz, and memory speed is 310 Mhz. but if you test it that maybe less a little than the SPEC. the reason is from software. same thing is showing on hard disk also. for example. when you check the size of 80GB HD on windows, it is showing 79GB or less....

But you can check the hardware if the SPEC are same as the description, just take off the cooling fan to read the logo and part numbers on the GPU, then you can check the SPEC on ati's website, same way you can check the SDRAM, it is -3.3ns, so speed is 1/3.3=303Mhz, it is named -3.3ns ram 310Mhz, -2.8ns RAM 1/2.8=357Mhz named 360Mhz 720Mhz DDR

all of above is ture, you also can get the informations from google search."

That is what the companys tech support sent me that I purchased the card from. Now I knew that issue to be true for HDD's but the 2 nVidia cards before this radeon 9700 pro reported correct speeds. A g4ti4600 and a g3ti200, and my pals 8500 radeon (wich was replaced with the same card I have , same company) posted the right speeds. But his card is even reporting lower speeds, I belive 297 on the core, and 250 on the ram. What do you guys think this is?

297/250?

Odd. Radeon 9700 (non-PSOs) are 275/275 if memory serves.

I wonder if your buddy landed a crappy 9700 from a DELL. DELL is infamous for having underclocked videocards with shite RAM... I think they had a "Radeon 9700 TX" that was 275/250 or 300/250...

It is read as a pro, and advertised as a pro, and powerstrip and the catalyst drivers both recognize it as a pro. I think I got shafted, so I am currently attempting to get my cash back, ill spend the extra $ and get a real one from a reputable manufacture and merchant

Like $40, wich isnt that big of a deal to me, is it worth it?
