While looking at the graphics card on overclcokers.co.uk, I noticed some really messed up stuff...

<A HREF="http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_6600_GT...." target="_new">Here</A> is a Galaxy GeForce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 graphics card for £139.95

And <A HREF="http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeForce_6800_GT...." target="_new">Here</A> here is a XFX GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 for £249.95.

Now if you compare the spec sof the two cards, you'll see that the much cheaper Galaxy GeForce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 graphics card has a hell of alot more clocks than the much more expensive XFX GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 graphics card.

Both use DDR3 so what in gods name is making the crapper card more expensive????

Has the XFX GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 graphics card got some features the other hasent or something? Whats the justification for the higher price when its a worse performar??

Is it a typo or maybe the games bundled with the XFX 6800GT are why the price is higher????

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me why these prices are like this....

Its not the only weird pricing n overlcocker.co.uk either... theres loads more. Maybe im missing something?

Thanks...

The 6800GT will *slay* a 6600GT.

It's not all about clockspeeds. Architecture is FAR more important, and the 6800 has a far superior architecture than the 6600GT.

When looking for a videocard, this is what you look for (in order of importance):

1) at the GPU type (architecture - most important)
2) memory bus (64, 128, or 256-bit)
3) clockspeeds, and
4) amount of RAM (least important)

The clockspeed specs look identical, but the 6800GPU contains twice the pixel pipelines (16 pipelines vs. the 6600's 8 pipelines), and the memory bus on the 6800GT is 256-bit while the 6600GT's is 128-bit.

Clockspeeds aren't that important compared to specs and the memory bus.

dont forget cost-effectiveness.

hey thats great info, thanks alot for that. i had no idea about the interfaces and architenture, I shall take those into consideration from now on, thanks.

Cost is of course important, but I was talking hardware specs - which this fellow had gotten confused about.

Once you understand hardware specs, then you have a point of reference from where you can determine if the cost is worth the benefit.

Of course, nothing beats good 'ol benchmarks for that...
