I am new to the hobby. I bought a non-working Q*bert, replaced power
supply, reflowed solder on the interconnect board, cut off battery and
replaced with off board battery holder. and Q*bert lived! The game
played perfectly, 100% functioning for two weeks.

Now the machine is completely dead. When the machine is turned on, the
monitor flashes white then goes black, the marquee does turn on.
Nothing else happens. No sound or anything.

I have replaced all fuses. The only clue I have is that the battery
pack, which was stuck on the the board with two sided tape, fell off
and was hanging in front of D17 chip on the mainboard. I checked the
voltages of the batteries and they are ok as are the battery
connections to the mainboard. Could the blow from the battery pack
falling and hitting D17 kill the whole game? If so, how do I test D17
and where can I buy a replacement. I'm stumped. Any commentary would
be appreciated.

Hi,
I would start with your power supply board. Even if the main board is
dead and you have a working sound board, you will still hear sound.
Are all the led's on the power board illuminated? Start checking
voltages on your power board and go from there.

Q*bert Lives!

Thanks for your reply Troy. Turns out it was a 10amp fuse that was
testing ok but was actually bad. There was a little bit of burnt at
one edge that could only be seen in the bright sunlight.

So the moral of the story is TAKE OUT YOUR FUSES to visually inspect
and test
