Uh oh.

All I play is Flight Sim 2004.

A few weeks (5 0r 6) I was getting strange, miscolored textures and noise on the screen. I cleaned out me computer (physically) and the problem went away. I guess it was overheating.

Now, I am having the problem again. But, unlike several weeks ago, it starts right away, not an hour or so into the flight. My computer is also squeaky clean.

I have also experienced several blue screens while MSFS changes from loading to the FS and when switching from cockpit to external views. Would these be related to a bad vid card?

So, my question is, is the card bad? recoverable? what do I need to do?

Specs are:

Asus K8V Deluxe
A64 3200+
9800 Pro 128
1028 3200 RAM
120GB Seagate Barracuda
Antec 430 Case

If I need a new card, what is my best option for $430 and below. Will my PSU handle it?

Thanks

Is there a fan on your graphics card? and if so is it spinning?

Fan is on and spinning.

I have done no overclocking, it is still at stock speeds.

Something has definitely gone wrong. It's a bit early to throw up our hands and say it's the graphics card though.

The anomalies do not bode well. People usually see those things when they overclock their graphics card and too much heat is produced.

a) Are you overclocking anything?
b) Have you tried reseating the graphics card?
c)Have you tried with an open case? If it's hot maybe an open case can help?
d)Can you monitor your case/cpu temperature. Usually a utility supplied with the Mobo CD (although the name can be obscure)

I have nothing overclocked.

Took the panel off the side of the case, no improvement.

Took the card out and reseated it, nothing.

CPU is at 97 F and MOBO is at 92 F. I don't know how to monitor the GPU temp (can you do this with SI Sandra, if not is there a utility to do this with the Asus K8V Deluxe?).

Things are actually getting worse.

I sent the card back to ATI. I hope they can repair it. Does it sound like my problem is the video card (fingers crossed)?

You should've try reinstalling the driver first...

AthlonXP 2200 @ 2GHz, 512MB DDR400, 64MB Abit Ti4200, 40GB Maxtor, 120GB Western Digital, 48x24x42 TDK CDRW, 16X ASUS DVDROM, SB! live 5.1DE, Lifeview 3000 TV card...

This sounds exactly like my problem. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (256MB version - ordered before I read that the extra 128MB does nothing for this card). One day I started getting discolored lines and artifacts on my screen. I reformatted my computer, installed the latest graphics driver, tried using an earlier version of the driver, even tried underclocking the video card. Nothing fixed it. The fan works. I've decided that the card must have some kind of permanent damage. It only happens when using 3D. It works fine in 2D, like on the desktop. I'm planning on buying a new $500 video card in the near future, and now that this has happened I've decided that I'm going to get a water cooling kit and water cool the new video card to help safeguard my investment.
