Hi

Just setup a intranet within my house, just hosting a couple of
internet sites that I want local copies of and a file sharing / forum
system.

Everything works great from the computer that is hosting the files,
but on the laptop that has internet access I can only log onto the
intranet if I'm connected to the internet as well.

Seems that the computer upon typing in 192.168.0.2 automatically
assumes it on the internet and asks for access, when I say no if just
displays an error message without bothering to look at the
192.168.0.2 address that is on the network.

Any ideas on how to fix?

Thanks.

The computer just sends a request to the default gateway. It doesn't
care where the IP is located.

The gateway should know that the 192.168.0.2 is a local address.

Can you ping that address. Can you see the computer in Windows explorer?

Pings work fine as do browsing the files in explorer.
