OK if anyone can help me?

I have an ASUS CUV4X, AGP 4X motherboard. Pretty old!

Anyway, I have a faulty Graphics card and I am in desperate need of a new card! I was looking into these 3 cards;
<b>"ATI" & SAPPHIRE VGA CARD</b>
ATI-SAPPHIRE R9200SE 128M DDR TVO/DVI 8xAGP
ATI-SAPPHIRE R9250 128M 64bit TVO DVI
ATI-SAPPHIRE R9250 256M DDR TVO DVI-I

<b>ASUS VGA CARDS</b>
V9520-X/TD/128M/A X-SERIES,A,NV34,128DDR
V9400-X/TD/128M/A - MX4000 "X" TD/128DDR
V9400MAGIC_T_P_128M_A MX4000 TV-OUT PAL
V9520 MAGIC - GeForce FX 5200 - TV Out 128Mb

1st, which cards will fit in my motherboard?
2nd, which card will support games likes WoW, Lineage 2, etc all the new games that need all the TnL & Pixels Shaders, etc
3rd, which one is the better one

All of those cards suck.

Look for a Geforce4 Ti4200, it'll be better than all of those put together.

Other cards to look for new or used would be the Geforce3, Radeon 8500 or 8500le, Radeon 9100, Radeon 9000 PRO. They also would be better than all of the cards you've listed, probably cheaper too.

<b>AthlonXP <font color=red>3200+</b></font color=red> <i>(Barton 2500+ o/c 400 FSB)</i>
<b>3dMark03: <font color=red>5,354</b>

And if he can afford one, then the R9600 and R9600Pro should still work in most 4X MoBos (depending on voltage and keying for final say of course).

Just read that the 6600GT also worked at 4X.

Don't many of the lower/middle end modern cards also run at 4X?

The loving are the daring!

Thanks for your help guys, but my cpu speed is a 800Mhz (sigh). So I'm only looking for a cheap buy because I can get all those cards for around AUD$60 which is around USD$45. I'm not looking to speed a great deal of money! Until I buy my new computer which won't be for a few months!

Even with your weak CPU those cards suck. I wouldn't go any lower than a GeForce4 MX440. I believe the MX4000 is based on the MX420, a much lesser card.

The Radeon 9550 with 128-bit memory interface would be fine, the 9550 with 64-bit memory interface...probably not much better than an MX4000.

It would work, but hey, IT'S JUNK!

Short story: Around 4 years ago ATI came out with a fairly mild card, the 8500. For those who couldn't even afford that, they made an underclocked version, the 8500LE.

Around 2 years ago they renamed the 8500LE the 9100. The 9200 was a slower version of the 9100. The 9200SE is a 9200 with the memory interface CUT IN HALF for half the bandwidth/performance.

I'd get an old GeForce2 before I'd get a 9200SE.

Thanks heaps! One more question, if I can get hold of a price list of the graphic cars I want that are under AUD$100 could I post it here, and you tell which one you would recomend. The thing is I only want to the graphics card from this one retailer, because I get it for cheap ;)! Thanks!

Oh my god! THose still all suck!

From that list, get the Radeon 9250, but only if it has a full 128-bit memory interface. The 256 meg version doesn't say it's a 64-bit card, but it might be, so check it out.
The 9250 64-bit sucks, and so does the 9200SE.

If all the 9200's and 9250's are 64-bit, see if one of those GeforceFX 5200's are 128-bit. If they are 64-bit, then they're garbage too.

Don't even consider the MX4000, they are the worst cards in the world.

For the record, you're limiting yourself to really crappy videocards here. You should seriously consider buying used or looking somewhere else...

Out of all those cards, I'd say the best bets for the same dollar would be the V9520 (FX5200) based cards, but be sure they are 128bit memory. Also with that I'd put the R9250 in amongst the choices simply because it's a solid base if it's 128bit (I have seen the R9250256 in 128bit so not sure if it's the one you're looking at, but you'll want to be certain). Any 64 bit card will perform very poorly.

And none of these card will benifit from 256mb over 128mb (in fact may be worse if they use cheaper memory to get more of it). Their cores aren't powerful enough to take advanatage of settings that more memory would be a benifit to.

That's my view from here. Whatever you do, do not get a 64bit card! A 128bit GF4MX will almost always outpace a newer 64bit low-end card.

Thanks everyone

Just to clear this up Cleeve, my computer is a 800Mhz, I'm not looking for a gaming computer. I only want to spend under $100. I don't want any Nvidia 6600GT. What would be the point of getting a good graphics card when I wouldn't be able to utilize power?

Ahh ok, you said WoW so thought you might be looking for more power.

Still the R9250 (128bit memory) and FX5200 (128bit memory) would be your best choices. If you are looking low resolution maybe the GF4MX is a bad idea as it will not support additional features, yet will play the same as the FX5200 and R92xxSE 64bit editions, so might as well get the effects.

Just a thought. Anyways, I think you've got an idea from what's been said. Good luck.

Well, when I went to see they guy to order the part. He said to wait a bit as the prices will drop a lot. I did and now I can get a card for $25 US. I was wondering if this card will work in my motherboard. I'm just asking this to be on the safe side. This is what it says it is

A9250/TD/128MA **NEW**

Yes it should work in your motherboard.

It's still a mediocre card, but it'll work.

Two nice things, it's low profile, and it's passive cooling.

So it's small and quiet.

Disregard what I just asked! I know the answer! I was just looking at the price list and I saw this! Now I'm really confused.

One is made by ASUS and the other by SAPPHIRE

ASUS
A9250/TD/128M/A **NEW**

SAPPHIRE
ATI-SAPPHIRE R9250 128M 64bit TVO DVI

Is there any difference between these two cards?

The biggest difference, the Sapphire has 64bit memory interface instead of the 128bit on the ASUS (from what I saw in the descriptions last night), effectively cutting the memory speed in half. Definitely the ASUS would be a better choice. While memory bandwidth may or maynot have a great impact on some games, in newer games I would always go for the best memory options, because while it may play the same at 800x600 or 1024x768 and both crap out equally at a slightly higher resolution the one card may give you access to 2XAA or 4XAF whereas the other simply doesn't have the bandwidth to action such a request and you will get that nice benifit where 800x600 + 2XAA + 4XAF where it's noticeably better.

Always go for the 128bit memory interface instead of 64bit. Because even if the memory is 500mhz x <b>64bit</b> x 2 (DDR) /8bits = (8.0G<b>B</b>/s) vs 300mhz X <b>128bit</b> X 2 / 8bits = (9.6G<b>B</b>/s), the 128bit will have higher bandwidth to help with more demanding settings.
