Best Card for Barton?

Hi guys, I recently bought a new machine:
AMD Barton 3200
768Mb Pc2700 DDR RAM
ASRock K7S41 Motherboard.

I thought I'd be clever and buy a new graphics card to replace the onboard gfx and purchased a Geforce 5500 FX (256MB) only to find my fps was roughly the same as when using a geforce 2 64mb card.
The 5500fx performed much better on my P4, with nearly double the fps, so I passed it on to a friend with a pentium system.

I've read lots of reviews on different cards and no one seems to say for sure which one is a good match to my system. I have around £100 to spend (roughly $190).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Rule #1- Stay away from the entire GeforceFX series.

A good card? Within reach (but a little higher) of that price range is the excellent Geforce 6600GT.

For less than that, look for a used 9700 PRO or 9800 PRO. But if you must have new, then I guess a 9600 PRO or 9600XT would be good choices.

I see from your siggy you have a Radeon 9700 PRO running on your AthlonXP 3200+.
More than a couple of people have recommended radeon cards specifically for the barton processor. Definately no probs running the geforce cards you mentioned?

Looks 9600 PRO or 9600XT then. 66 is just a lil too much for a lowly student to stretch to.

shop around for your card, dont go for the 1st one u see in your budget...

online price average (inc VAT exc delivery)
9600Pro 128mb = £65-80
9600XT 128mb = £85-100
