My wife has this Toshiba C655D-S5043 which will not boot up. It goes straight to a black screen with a non blinking cursor in the top left. I have tried the F2, F12, F8 keys and nothing happens. It just goes to the black screen. I checked the HDD with an external inclosure on my Samsung laptop and read it fine. Tried the 'O' button after turning on the laptop and nothing; just the black screen.
System has an AMD processor and is running Windows 7 Home Premium. Tried loading Windows 7 Professional but the system will not boot up from the disk.
Anybody have any ideas? I am a desktop guy and do not know much about the insides of a laptop. A friend mentioned the CMOS battery might be dead. Do laptops have those? If so how do you change it?
