Hello,

I have a big problem with an Win XP system, SP2.
I cannot install windows updates anymore. Neither in automatic mode,
neither in manual download mode. After I select to download and install
an update from Microsoft site, an installation windows appears, the
download starts, progress bar is filled, download finish, verrify
download, than again downloading, verrifying, downloading .... infinite
loop.
I thought it's something wrong with the temporary downloaded files, so
I erase the files in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download.
The same problem, infinite loop.
I tried for a lot of updates, not for only one ... the same result.
Here is a piece of KB888113.log file update, where you can see the
infinite loop I am talking about. Some errors are logged ...
Because of this infinite loop problem, until I realize the problem, the
system dowloaded more than 200MB of "junk updates", since the automatic
updates setting was by default.
Infinite looping and continous download ...

Any idea, please ?

Thanks,
Alex

Try the procedure described here:

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft. [...] d=11&ln=en

You might need to delete the DataStore folder mentioned in the link above,
as well as the Download folder.

Note that a side effect of deleting the DataStore folder is that you lose
your Windows Update History listing (not critical).
