Notepad cursor problem

when i open notepad, the cursor doesn't show up - i thought it was hung. once
i start to type it shows up, but when i hit enter for a newline, it
disappears again. not a big deal, just a big annoyance.

how do i fix this?

Its suppose to do that. just move the mouse and it appears again

i'm looking for the text cursor, not the mouse cursor.
