Ok so i just recently upgraded from a 9700 PRO to a 6800GT 256. Running in my system i dont have a whole lot, 1 hdd, floppy, 1 optical drive, 4 usb devices. I ran the 9700 PRO on my Enermax 350W PSU, and am not being told by verious people that i should get a 450W PSU for the 6800GT. Just wondering what everyones thoughts were on this? I have been using it for a week now and had no power problems or any warnings about low power, but i did hope that the framerates would have been better, and some people are attributing this to lack of power??? I know its an upgrade which wont go astray in the future, but i dont see that i NEED IT! Thoughts??

Oh and one last thing, the only PSU's i can find are ATX 2.0 and as im running a standard P4 will the PSU be compatibly with my system??

P4. 2.4, 1024 DDR333 RAM, Albatron 6800GT 256, SB Audigy Platinum.

Mate these fair-dinkum contraptions are bloddy alright... Pity they can't jump as high as a kangaroo!!

An upgrade from 350 is almost surely in order. Don't forget to consider the voltages on the rails.

Also with this Video card it is recommended that you give the card it's own rail. Don't share the rail with another device. Evidently it doesn't like to share. rofl

I doubt you need another PSU.

I have the Enermax 365 (proably what you have) and the 465, and they are both underrated in most reviewers tests. I would be surprised if you need more than the 365 as it usually matches up with a typical 450+ and even bests 'Antec True 380s'.

With only one HD and floppy and optical and a low power draw CPU, I'd be surprised if you need more. Sounds more like a HEAT issue to me. Try running it with the case door open and see what happens. I haven't heard of a PSU greatly affecting framerate so much as affecting working vs not.

Ok so i forked out the money and bought a 470 watt ATX power supply Enermax EG475P-VE-SFMA Noisetaker. It is a 24 Pin psu but comes iwht a 20 pin convertor. As i have a 20 pin mobo, will i experience any problems with the conervion and what do you think of the Psu? i heard Enermax is a good brand... Oh we dont get Fortron or whatever in Auz. Please comment.

Oh here is the web address: http://www.enermax.com.tw/products_page.php?Tid=1&gon=256&Gid=18&Gid2=43

I like Enermax, Them and 'PC Power & Cooling' are my favourites. But the board here does seem to like Fortron alot.

As for the 20-24 pin it looks like it's actually a 20+4 and no need of a converter. But if it's a server based PSU then the converter wouldn't negatively impact the performance.

Either way it would be fine, it just means it will fit well with a future board which are beginning to adopt the server originating 24 pin connectors.
