Got a real easy question for some of the wizards out there, my brother has a Windows 98 SE system and is not connected to a network...HOWEVER he has the Windows Password thing activated to where everytime you boot up, after the Windows 98 screen, the password prompt pops up...how do I disable this permanently?
THE OTHER QUESTION IS he is moving in with me and I'm getting a cable modem hooked up early next month. My cable provider is giving me an ethernet card and leasing me the cable modem, how do I network my computer and his together to where he can access the internet as well as I? Wireless netowrking is a possible but expensive venture, want something simple, cheap and wirefull...hehe...any software I should try or use? Can my computer have 2 ethernet cards (one for the modem, the other for the network with my brother) and do I need a hub/router? The 2 computers will be no more than 15-20 feet away...THANKS!
To get rid of the password thing, go to network in the Control panel and change the type of log-on. There should be a little drop-down box below the list of ethernet cards and dial-up adapters.
Get a router. I think there is a Netgear one at Best Buy for not too much money. This would provide a hardware firewall, it would allow you to network the two computers, it would allow you to share the cable modem without having to pay for two IP addresses, and you would only need one network card per computer.
Good luck
I see stupid people. They're everywhere. They walk around like everyone else.
