A request for help on recycle prompted this. Every since I have
had xp on this machine, couple years (?) the desktop has a icon
for recycle bin. It has never worked. I go to windows explorer
to my recycle directory and work from there so it really isn't a
big deal.

Clicking on the icon gives me a popup saying ......

"this file does not have a program associated with it for
performing this action. create an association in the folders
options control panel."

I have gone there and I have NO IDEA what association it wants.
It doesn't give me a clue. BTW, the icon will not delete either.

Anyone know??

Right-click on your Desktop and select:
Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop
and restore your Recycle Bin icon.

Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll
down to Item #64 (right column) and click on "Repair/Replace the
Recycle Bin in Windows XP".

There are 2 icons for recycle there and neither one of them will
delete??? However, I went through the dog and pony show and then
after closing the drop down, just RIGHT clicked the icon and it
asked if I wanted to delete all data there. I said yes and it
dumped them. I then double clicked it and to see what was there
and got the same message that nothing is associated. But I can
still see it under win explorer. :)

OK, I downloaded that and looked at it with notepad. As I'm sure
you know, it contains a couple of *pages* of HKEYs. I assume
that they are to take the place of existing HKEYs?? There is no
auto loading of them included and although I am familiar with the
regs, I would hesitate to delete that much and re-install that
page full. It might not work at all after that. :)

I found nothing there relating to my problem.
